Damn, Warner still gets a gig? Surely they need his "star" power back in the T20 which is struggling with crowds in Sydney and Melbourne.

Good lord, get over yourself. You are nearly as bad as Xfactor.

Squad is hardly surprising, they were never going to drop Haddin so hard to be disappointed.

Considering Starc is in the squad, Lyon aint going anywhere (and nor should he be), so the only change will be Harris for Patto.

Terrible decision to have Starc directly in the team

It should be:

Warner
Cowan
Watson
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Haddin
Siddle
Harris
Hilfenhaus
Lyon

12th Man: Starc

If the want for prong attack Bringing in Warner would do that without having to drop Lyon.

I might have missed something but I don't think it says Starc is directly in the XI.

Yeah they weren't going to drop Haddin mid series, especially when they're winning.

Will probably just be Harris in for Pattinson, Lyon will probably get a reprieve now as Starc is pretty average.

Good to see them stick with Marsh too, hopefully he can make some runs on his home ground.

Watson's injured. He won't be back for this test series.

Lyon's bowling is of no threat to the Indians. If he can't take wickets at the SCG he aint getting any in Perth. Make him 12th man and bring in Harris and Starc.

Well it's pretty obvious, Watsons injured and Haddin was named vice captain in his absence (and fair enough, only other experienced options were Ponting, Siddle or Hussey, and of them Haddin has a heap of experience as NSW captain). If Watson was fit he'd probably be dropped by now.

Was a bit sad watching today, he's just past it ever since the World Cup. He did a perfectly good job till then but that, sadly was a while ago and it's time for him to go. Wade or Nevill would be nice. Always liked him as a NSWelshman

Again, shows the stupidity of annointing Paine the next in line, regardless of his injuries etc.

Hopefully Harris is playing instead of Starc. Saw Starc having some coaching with Wasim Akram today so credit to him for working on his game but he's not Aus standard (mind you, not much else is fit at the moment). Harris was having a bowl with McDermott as well and looked pretty sharp.

Ah didn't realize no Watson, that is for the best as it would be good sorting out who should stay in that top order. Although if all 3 perform then good luck to the selectors in deciding who goes.

nah, some of them would understand given that they would have been subjected to innappropriate stays in the australian team themselves (johnson, north). although, hilditch + co apparently never gave feedback on reasons for dropping, whenever that happened.

this is where no first class cricket comes back to bite. no form lines for anyone but the most recent players who have already played for australia this summer. not to say starc won't do well but we could have figured out if anyone else could have played too (bollinger, clint mckay, etc) but they've made that difficult for themselves haven't they?

Starc might not be near test standard, but at least he's endeavouring to get there. Consistency will be the biggest thing for him to work on, especially since the past few series have shown the value of a bowling attack that builds pressure.

With Pattinson's injury I really hope they include Lyon at the WACA, simply because I can see Starc releasing a lot of pressure at one end (moreso than Lyon anyway). It's a shit situation to be in with such badly injury hit bowling stocks. A bit of first class cricket would have been handy...

Seriously, what the hell will it take for Haddin to be dropped? How can the media miss him? The pressure Hayden, Martyn and more recently Ponting and Hussey were put under by the media was so intense but somehow Haddin does not attract any scrutiny whatsoever despite performing worse than any of those guys ever have/did.

Was keen to go for a four man pace attack in Perth, but now with Pattinson out, I don't really want to see Starc playing so Lyon may as well stay in.

The media put heat on Haddin? It will never happen

It's because we are winning, so the pressure is not there. Plus, no one is really knocking the door down. Wade plays a similar style (batting-wise) to Haddin, not sure of their keeping (but surely Wade cannot be worse...), but Haddin has the experience and is the incumbent.
Mind you, if Paine were fit, let's hope he'd be in by now...

As for the rest, solid squad again. I really hope Cowan makes it. We need a solid opener, like the English have with Cook, who can occupy the crease. I think Warner will stay, and if Watson comes back, I don't like the look of a Watson/Warner opening combo all too much.
That's why Katich was so great... I hope Cowan makes that role his.

Obviously, Katich cannot come back in. We've started heading down the youth path, we have to stay there, especially with Ponting and Hussey to stay for a while longer, and probably also unfortunately Haddin.

As for Starc vs Harris vs Lyon. Harris will play. Lyon vs Starc... If I have 4 fast bowlers, I'm bowling Hilfenhaus, Siddle, and Harris, waaaaay before I bowl Starc. I can't see Starc doing better than those 3, but at least Lyon can give some variety if required, and bowl longer spells than Starc.

On the whole, it's a winning team, so it's hard to change. The top order obviously needs sorting out, and I'm not convinced that one unbelievably exceptional innings by our middle order will solve our collapses, but with what this selection panel has done (with Patto and especially Hilfy), sticking with certain guys (Huss, Punter), and making suitable changes (Cowan for Hughes), I'm going to back them in.

what?????

is he seriously injured... i assumed just rested.

man, i've defended haddin before, though not recently... he did pretty well for himself for a while and it was tough for him following gilchrist. but since about half way through the ashes he has been very very ordinary, and got to the point now that it's redicolous.

lyon must play in perth ahead of starc. i thought they'd go four quicks... surely not now.

EDIT: just got home from pub and asw other thread re; patto injury.... FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
