What did the AFL get oet out of it?

Ezsyto see what the
CRICKET club got out of it
&
the state of VIctoria.

Tip, the NRL SELL origin games, & buyers are lining up.
Based on Origin, the Vic govt paid way unders for the GF, but given everyone new there was only 1 buyer, your not going to get market rates.

Will not happen in Melbourne for a while yet.....with what the afl did to Fitzroy Fc they learnt from their mistake. Not saying that Fitzroy would of survived as they only had 10,000 Fitzroy fans attending their matches when they were going ok but they really did not listen to their members when they wanted to merge with North Melbourne. Now their fans have either given the game away or have gone to another afl team.

Only clubs that are in trouble are North Melbourne and st.kilda financially. North are the likely ones to go because they struggle to draw 20,000 when they are winning. Atleast st.kilda can draw over 30,000 when they start winning.
North with no debt isn't going anywhere.

Its not a Perth problem, it could handle a 3rd team on many measures, BUT there is no getting away from it, there are too many teams in Melbourne & some of those clubs cant make ends meet & their supporters believe these clubs are actually trning a profit.
One team in needs one out & Tas should get first dibs.
You say this like it is some sort of FACT, when, really, it is the OPINION or more accurately SOOKING of someone with a massive chip on their shoulder.

You can't use the NRL as an example when they too have signed their Grand Final to stay in Sydney to a long term contract (until 2042) with the NSW Government in return for redeveloping ANZ Stadium (a price that some will say is too high) without the process going out to a bidding process. Just as the AFL has done.

The comparison for the NRL selling Origin games to other cities is the AFL selling home and away matches to markets that don't have clubs.

Also Fitzy is one of your own

You mean the upgrades to the AFL owned Docklands stadium don't count as the AFL getting something out of it?

Or the extra money the AFL gets from the MCG compared to all other stadia? (BTW. the upgrades to that ground were largely in the AFL members area meaning they get to charge even more $$$).

10 team Victorian Conference, possibility of sending a Vic team to Tas. Conference GF hosted at G.
10 team National Conference, 3x SA, 3x WA, 2x NSW, 2 x QLD. Conference GF hosted by top spot.

Play every side once, 18 week season.

Top 4 finals in each conference, 3 weeks

You could then have a world championship series, 3 games going over two to three weeks.
Best in season record gets the first and last game.

If Victoria continues to pay lip service to the other states eventually football will fall away in those states.

Saw Fitz play his first game (Subi) & he's Melbourne establishment now unlike your good self, sorry not an MCC meber, you must be hoi poloi like me, myself, personally.

& as for Origin being like H&A, it fills 3 of the top 5 most watched sports TV programs, the one, the only AFL game is the Grand Final, of course, on that basis perhaps you are wrong!! Memo to cheerleaders, remember its Aus not 5 capital cities.

Origin matches are sold just like international friendlies are for the soccer, home and away games are for the AFL and NRL and just about any sport. The NRL Grand Final was sold before the current deal that includes ANZ Stadium and the SFS rebuilds.

Who the hell bought up tv ratings anyway? Cheerleaders abound of all kinds apparently.

I'm talking about the MOU between the NSW Government and the NRL: https://www.nrl.com/news/2018/03/29...stay-in-sydney-until-2042-after-stadium-deal/

Which if scraped by an incoming NSW Labor Government would see the Grand Final from 2020 played elsewhere and sold off as it currently is: https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/sy...um-spend-stops-greenberg-20181127-p50iq6.html

Nah, I hate that. Very unequal travel burden. Vic teams don't travel at all during their regular season, WA teams get 2 x QLD and 2 x NSW away trips. Those are longer flights compared to PER-MEL.

The strength of the AFL Balance Sheet is really academic IMHO, nice, but no reason for the 'behind closed doors' deal. The underlying strength is the revene from TV, primarily Foxtel. Be interesting to see the note to the Balance Sheet.

The State Govt guarantee for loans by the MCC is no reason, it benefits Vic thats why the Govt was at the 'behind closed doors' table - it benefits Vic just as Govt funding to attract Origin does, or Govt funding of the GP or the tennis. But its for Victorians not the rest of Aus - see the NSW racing scheduling of the Everest during Vic racings spring carnival, its not about the sport of horse racing.

Whats in it for Vic, the MCC is beyond question, sleazy deals behind closed doors are politics Australia style, its the footy followers of Australia that are the losers.

It was suggested an Origin match was the equivalent of an AFL H&A game, perhaps you shoukd have railed about such an ignorant comparison & the issue seemed to have attracted the fanboy posters.
As for tv ratings .... yep, its relevant to for an uninformed poster to understand, so is the NRL TV rights.

It was suggested that the AFL (clubs) selling home and away games to state governments was analogous to what the NRL does with the SOO. In no way did the comment imply that an AFL home and away game is an equivalent event to a SOO match.

In terms of your last sentence, it is impossible to understand what your point is. You brought up TV rights which had absolutely no relevance to the topic at all and, to be frank, you are not the most articulate poster around here at the best of times.

Seriously though, you come across as ridiculous when you start talking about fanboys. You spend half your life on a forum dedicated to a sport you are at best ambivalent to to prosecute one of two obsessive complexes (NRL v AFL or Victoria v everywhere else). When the two get entangled it becomes extra confusing to understand what you are trying to say

To compare a H&A game with Origin is demonstrably nonsense.
Actually it depends how you look at it.

Anzac day attracts much bigger crowds than SOO. SOO will slaughter it fir TV ratings. It reflects the fact NRL is much more of a TV game than AFL. Pubs do a roaring trade when SOO is on, even if they're close to the ground and there's seats available.

It's a trap whenever you compare other codes with AFL.

You mean the 'behind closed door' deal that was widely reported in the media?

BTW. Check your figures..media right is only about a 1/4 of AFL/club income.

As for the other events... That Melbourne gets all of those events is WHY they can pay more than the rest. Economies of scale.

A press release got out AFTER the event, aka behind closed doors. Sleazy given only the encumbents were involved.
I referred to the AFL, not the clubs but, no I didnt check the % of AFL revenue.

So when the AFL negotiated with Adelaide Oval, and Perth Oval, were they sleazy deals conducted behind closed doors?

Or was it a simple matter of there only being two relevant parties, so they were the only ones included?

The West Australian chairman, and South Australian CEO of the AFL clearly preferred a long term deal, and the only realistic option was with Vic/the MCG...why include other parties when only two were relevant?

Luton Town FC, London Irish RFU,
Who would leave the dockers or eagles to follow a new club? Some obviously, but enough to pack out stadiums?
You are right it would be hard if not impossible to create a new club where? Joondana? Wanneroo? Jundalup? Yanchep? I just can't see it happening.

In Adelaide the choice was between Footy Park & Adelaide Oval (the SANFL or the venue manager at Adelaide Oval & in WA it was the WAFC at Subi, the Venue Manager/State Govt at Optus.
Yes, it was concluded after the pushing & shoving of the AFL footy clubs who pull the crowds.

Not surprised you will attempt to muddy the waters, not sure why - the AFL didnt ask the Tiges view on the deal, & both the MCC & AFL compete for members amongst the Tiger faithful with your footy club.

Not sure any of our media havent put Richard Goyder on the spot, & Gil, like Fitz is Melbourne establishment thru & thru, blue blood.

As a very long term resident of Perth and also a long time supporter of our game and given the present state of the WAFC finances and also the precarious position of a few WAFL Clubs we need another AFL Club not.
Whoever started this thread has no flipping idea of the layout of Perth and the general economic situation.
It taken the Eagles decades to get into the healthy position they are in and look at the Dockers they are just starting to get somewhere financially.
