I only spend a short time in Melbourne a year but I always listen to RRR when I am. It is Australia's premier "alternative" radio station. Closely followed by 3D in Adelaide, ZZZ in Brisbane and 2SER in Sydney.

As 3D used to have as their bumper sticker logo "Scene but not Herd". That applies to all the above stations but not to the J's.
 
I would listen to maybe 6 shows a week. The rest I'll pass on. I think the station use to be great but these days I find the great bulk of it unlistenable.

Triple J listener for more than 15 years... but after being disappointed with the hottest 100 this year (no Eddie Current.. no Drones not even in the top 200 & the top 10 being full of rubbish i have to tolerate on commercial radio at night work) I have moved to 3RRR this week.. tried to get into it in the past as well but always caught some really dull specialty shows..

So far this week i am enjoying it mostly.. not missing the triple J presenters .. especially between 6am - 9am

music can get a bit dull at times but i just switch back to the J's if that happens... hearing some good older stuff & will get used to the newer stuff in time.. will persist with it or at least become a 2 station man rather than solely a triple J man

3D is top of the tree in my opinion. It's also, i believe, Australia's only completely community based, subscriber funded radio station with zero paid staff. Dave Manning still doind 'Smash It Up' aswell! :thumbsu:
 
Been a subscriber for a while - tend to flip between RRR & PBS (mostly for Kev Lobotomi's show)
 
Started listening back in the early 80’s with the coodabeans and punter to punter back to back on a Saturday morning, it seems now I’ve sold my soul to the R’s in a self indulgent and hedonistic parallel to Dorian Gray, long may my listening continue…
Now start playing some more Martin Denny you bastards!

4ZZZ is all that and is also the oldest in Australia. Gotta feeling that they may pay a station manger on Zed though. Just pay me subs and never worry. Just keep listening to the best radio station I have heard. Go 4ZZZ:thumbsu:.

I've been in Melbourne for work a lot over the last 12 months and I have to say I now agree with you Finman.

3D by a mile. The Double J then RRR, ZZZ.

Triple J is a really annoying station. Really annoying.
