The Swans and Cats have done the first trade of the 2024 trade period with the Swans giving pick 22 for Darcy Moloney.

Moloney was taken at pick 10 in the 2020 draft (same draft where Gardiner was taken at pick 20) and has now played 46 games and just turned 22. Good get.

Darcy is apparently good mates with Laura Gardiner and was previously captained by Lucy McEvoy at Geelong in the NAB League.

I'm thinking Darcy might be close with Laura Gardiner. Both of them came from Geelong Falcons. They are born one day apart (20 & 21 November 2002). And I reckon they both probably spent a fair while playing alongside each other in the VFLW as well as AFLW. A bit of synergy?

I really enjoyed her swagger. The way she win that fifty metres and the lip she gave to the defender on the mark. And she was straight into the middle of the dust-up at the end of the first quarter. She played well and lots of infectious energy

I love this interview with Moloney. She comes across as natural and authentic in front of the camera, something many young people find hard. (Old people too - I'd hate to have to do it.)

Darcy Moloney will play her 50th AFLW game this weekend, what has she brought to the side since joining the team this season?
It’s fantastic for Darcy to reach this milestone. She has bought great skill, a level of experience and a lot of footy smarts, with an ability to play across multiple lines, she’s added to the versatility we like to have in our team and she’s slotted in nicely.

Fair. But that's how I feel.

Darcy, to me, has lacked discipline and focus. And that's disappointing from a very talented player who we have placed a fair bit of trust in. Not mature or consistent enough. We need her to be better. She needs to take a leaf out of her mate, Laura's, book. If she continues as she played last season, I would delist her. She might be better than some others on the list but she's also getting paid more and is more senior. Now you can say "quite harsh!".
