Since there are Norf supporters here. Let's make one thing perfectly clear; attaining Dustin Martin on 1.5 million a year, in a team that's got no quality, in a club that is irrelevant, Dustin will become like Brent Harvey, a salmon in a small pond. Going to North won't affect me all at, out of sight and out of mind. Let's hope we trade for him and pay the 300,000 difference on his contract to someone else.

Wtf has happened to this thread overnight???

We have a lot of chicken littles on our board apparently.

How about we just support him this year and wait and see. We've got a good side this year where the sky's the limit. Let's just enjoy it and worry about what Dusty does after the finals series...yeah???

Actually thats not a bad option if push comes to shove. Better than the compo pick anyway.

In fact RFC could negotiate with a number of clubs that would suit Dusty if he is determined to leave because if he does leave we will not win a premiership in 2018 so its not like where he goes affects us too much initially.

The other thing we could do is trade out other older players and organise a mini rebuild if necessary.

I still think all we have to do is match the RFA years to force North to trade based on Dusty being a RFA, the extra 5 years where North are coughing up big money is market manipulation only relevant to Dusty when he becomes a UFA

The big four - Rance, Jack, Cotch and Dusty. Dusty is one of our on-field leaders and whether he likes it or not his legacy is entwined with the other three. He could go down as an absolute great if he sticks with them.

How can he accept a contract with North when he hasn't met with their coach (the current one), the leadership group or toured the facilities? How North treat players near the end of their careers is a whole other story. Imagine also the motivation boost a current player would receive when they see the club offer a 9 year deal to Josh Kelly while they are busting their gut. Horrible player management all round.

I believe he will sign with the Tigers. He might lose a bit of money over the term of this contract, but his "brand" will come out looking a million bucks. I think that is Carr's aim, to create the 'loyalty v $$' narrative and have Dustin be seen to choose the honorable one. It is a good look for his client and Carr seems quite image conscious. I think Dustin would recognize that it is also due to the hard work put in by Richmond that he now has this earning potential.

No matter what happens though it has been a privilege to see him wear the yellow and black guernsey.

Go Tigers

We are supporting him, but we are also backing the club not to screw the cap over one bloke. It's called being responsible. I want us to keep Dusty, but not at any cost.

Lmao @ Dusty meeting Norf's leadership group. If he were to leave I think he would skip the bullshit. It's all about cash, he doesn't need Ziebs and Dal to painfully sell that arsehole of a club to him.

As long we win the flag this year with him playing I'm up for the trade of him. I think we have enough young talent to cover dusty in the future.

I think we've given him a fair offer and it's at the very maximum of what we can provide him. It's up to him to pick. If he chooses Richmond, fantastic. If he exercises his rights, power to him. The club will survive and use that cap space + compo pick to attract someone else.

True and I think even the 1.2 isn't being a team player. I wish we had a group who decided to have max for their stars Martin, Rance, Cotch and Jack so we could win a flag. The Hawks model.

Hope players stay focused coz once he comes back from nz and doesent announce he's staying everyone will know then 100% he's gone , it could very well put spanner in our finals hopes .
This.

At some point the holding off on a decision will cause fractures within the playing group.

Should a decision not be made by the end of the break then we will pretty much know what he is doing. Now try play a final with a guy you can almost certainly pen down is going to an opposition club at the end of our finals campaign. I don't think it would bring much unity.

And then joining North. It's big money, this is the ONLY reason. How will North players, and supporters, feel about having Dusty playing for them, when he has no emotionally attachment with their club, expect for the contract they splashed out for him? On top of that, when North actually become competitive again, lets say within 2-5 years, Dusty is 28/29 at his youngest....... the jigsaw pieces don't match. Only the money.

We will fine regardless, short term hurt but we have positives to take from this should he leave. Money, picks, good player development. :thumbsu:

My worry however is the impact this could possibly have on our finals hopes.....

If somehow won the flag I'd drop him off at Arden St personally if that's what he wants.

High Court has to interpret the law. There's no law in Australia about maintaining the integrity of a private sporting competition.

You'd be laughed out of any court, let alone the high court with such a ridiculous proposition.
