Yeah but we're learning two things. One, north a desperate and two we know how much space they have in their cap.

Same with the bombers. And any other club that's making a play for him. I'd imagine it's telling Clarke a lot right now, good market intel

The way i see it from other clubs perspective is that there are 2 players available as restricted free agents that are in the elite category - Martin & Fyfe

Nathan Fyfe will require more than Dusty to move due to his marketability and leadership qualities that would be appealing to suitors

Martin will probably get offers around the $1 mil - $1.2 million range (5 year -$6 million)
Fyfe will attract $1.2 - $1.5 million range ( 6 year - $9 million )

Richmond is doing the right thing let it pan out then asses the situation and match and force a trade if he wants to leave get the best deal, if he wants to stay he takes our offer and that will be $5 mill over 5 years.

Sometimes things like this could work out for the best and force change and we might take a step back to go 2 steps foward

4 x 1st round picks ( 1 Josh Schache , 2 Zak Jones , 3 Jacob Hopper )
2 x 3rd round picks (Naish + Balic if he wants to come home)
Dump a load of under performing players
Bring in 1-2 free agents with the extra cash ( Trengove , Kreuzer or Jasper pittard / Sam Reid )

What a change that would be 2kpf 1kpd 3 inside mids 2 kids that are/were considered 3st rounders in their year of draft
1 first rounder drafted
Schache
Jones
Hopper
Naish
Balic
Trengove
Reid

Just watched his straight shooting interview with Swan, from his comments I cant think anything but that he loves the club, unfortunately this is the real World and his manager holds the reigns but I reckon if we get close to the offer of a North etc he would find it hard to leave.

Thought similar regarding this interview. I'd also imagine Dusty has carefully managed messages by him/Carr so it would be a calculated choice to say he's happy at the Tiges.

It's strange because normally these negotiations are so frantic- Danger last year at all times seemed like he was leaving. Schache and Brisbane have reached breaking point, but the RFC and Dustin seem very okay with where things are at, which has to be a good thing for his odds of staying

Similar to the Franklin scenario

Question for everybody here.

Would you want Dusty on $1 mil a year + any one of Morris,Maric,Hunt,Hampson on the list with a full list
Or
Dusty on $1.3 mil a year and go into a season 1 player short on the list

That's not a question you're expecting an answer to, is it?

Influential Essendon coterie figure has close links to Dustin Martin and the Bombers are interested

THE man who lured dual Geelong premiership coach Mark “Bomber” Thompson back to Essendon has close links to superstar Richmond free agent Dustin Martin.

Wealthy property developer and influential Essendon coterie figure Mark Casey - the brother of former Tigers president Clinton Casey — is a friend and confidant of Martin.

Casey brokered the deal that saw Thompson sensationally quit as Cats coach in October 2010 and return to Essendon as a senior assistant under James Hird.

Third favourite for this year’s Brownlow Medal behind Geelong’s Patrick Dangerfield and Adelaide’s Rory Sloane, Martin has previously turned to Casey for advice in property deals.

Bombers chief executive Xavier Campbell confirmed on Wednesday his club had discussed the possibility of recruiting Martin.

“It’s very preliminary stages with Dustin ... (but) he’s a genuine matchwinner and we’ll see what happens,” Campbell said.

Essendon officials on Thursday played down their interest in Martin but Thompson warned the Tigers not to leave themselves open to a raid.

“There are some very influential people in and around Essendon that can be very hard to say no to,” Thompson told the Herald Sun.

Thompson and Essendon list boss Adrian Dodoro pocketed $6.92 million each in March after the sale of a land development scheme at Armstrong Creek, between Torquay and Geelong.

Casey, who controlled the other 51 per cent of the project, made $14 million.

Martin, 25, is managed by music industry stalwart Ralph Carr and has put off contract talks with the Tigers until the end of the season.

Asked for an update this week Carr said: “I’ve got no comment in the terrible fright that I might be misquoted”.

Martin will command more than $1 million a year on the open market but is considered likely to stay at Punt Rd if the price is right.

The powerful, goalkicking midfielder will earn a relatively modest $630,000 this season.

North Melbourne has also expressed interest in making a major play for Martin.

Richmond can increase its own offer thanks to a 20 per cent player pay rise set to be agreed by the AFL Players’ Association and the league.

A figure close to Martin said the star midfielder had backed himself in to produce a career season despite speculation on his future.

“He wants a five-year deal and if Richmond steps up to the plate he’s more than happy to stay,” the figure said on Thursday.

“His form has been outstanding and would warrant being paid like one of the top players in the league.

“But he just wants to play footy and is leaving all of this to Ralph.”

Martin finished third in last year’s Brownlow and won the Jack Dyer Medal as the Tigers’ best and fairest.

Richmond president Peggy O’Neal has declared she has no issue with Martin or his manager exploring free agency options.

Dustin Martin will be a free agent at the end of the season.
“We have been quite clear that we are comfortable with Dustin and his management taking the time they need to make a decision on his future,” O’Neal said.

“The dealings throughout this process have been professional on both sides and the communications between the club and his manager Ralph Carr have been constructive.

“Free agency rules have changed the football landscape enormously. As a result, there is always significant speculation around player movement, particularly high-profile players.

“It is something that we have to get used to as uncomfortable as that can be.

“We have repeatedly said that we want Dustin to be a part of our club long-term and that is the outcome we are working towards. We remain confident that will be the case but, equally, we haven’t put any deadline on reaching an agreement.”

Casey is a former president of the Essendonians supporters group.

If he decides to leave we can give him a going away party get him wasted on booze and sleeping pills and take him out for a nice Chinese meal, chopsticks only, then report him for having connections with all those bikers and other unsavoury types we apparently have in the club rooms after games, finish it off with a one way ticket to NZ;)

Lets be honest if he goes he goes its going to be common place in the near future but please just not to the f@cking bombres.

As we have learnt over the years, no-one at Essendon says no.

No to performance enhancing drugs..nah

No to under the table payments that led to premierships...nah

As I have said previously, if Martin goes we will be well compensated. As THE_GUN points out above, we will be in prime position to pick up some guns with whatever we pick up from Martin. So whilst I would prefer he stay, if we can trade in a number of gun kids as replacements then I'm ok with that.

Still guilty in Dwaynes eyes, regardless of what the police concluded. To recap, nothing occurred. It wasn't the lack of sufficient evidence...nothing occurred.
Should be sued for that s**t. Besmirching his character.

Thats pretty funny, Essendon fairly compensating another club.... Possibly the most difficult club in the land to deal with...

Remember what happened with Danger, there was a dead lock, AFL step in as per policy to help resolve, job done and Adelaide do not get anything near what Danger is worth... We will not get anything close to 2 x 1st rounders or a good player plus a 1st rounder, won't happen... possibly a fringe and a mid to late 1st rounder at absolute best and that wouldn't be from the druggies, also contingent on where we finish..
