The intrigue over Dustin Martin's future continues, with his manager suggesting the star Richmond midfielder will make a call on his future by the start of the finals.

Fairfax Media reported last week that the Tigers had upped their offer to the Brownlow Medal favourite to six years and up to $1.2 million a season – although that might still not be enough to retain him.

Martin and his manager Ralph Carr had said they would wait until the end of the season to make a call but, with no indication that he will stay, and recent rumblings that he will leave, the final month of the home-and-away campaign will be a nervous one at Punt Road.

Martin would also have the option of delaying his call until after the Tigers' finals campaign is over. This could be a deep run, and potentially leave the awkward situation of Martin winning the Brownlow yet not being able to say where he will play next season.

However, Carr told Fairfax Media that a decision would likely be made in the break between round 23 and the start of the finals.

"It's in Dustin's court. I am sure at the right time he will say to me: 'Right, we are ready, let's review it'. But he always said at the end of the season. I dare say that's at the end of the home-and-away season, I would think," he said.

The article says he'll make his decision.

Doesn't mean he'll announce it.
Then why state anything at all if he was holding off until after the season
My guess is that announcement is imminent in the affirmative for staying at the club

It remains a poker game and Dusty is playing it very well. As, I think, are we. Even if it takes is another $1.0 million over five years, I suspect the RFC will find it and time the announcement to maximise its impact leading into the finals campaign. At the end of the day, we can still match any other offer. And if Dusty really wants to go to Norf or St Kilda for a few extra pretax dollars, he might just look at how successful Buddy's and Gazza's excursions have been in recent years.

Or you know, we could just rest him him so he gets a break and still wins the Brownlow.
But it's having this hanging over his head whilst blokes bait him that I don't like. I'd much rather he and Cotchin get it out of their system now.
If they do it in a final they'll miss the next final if we go that far.

If he does sign what does it mean for attracting more talent to the club?

My sphincter is twitching with the possibility that the only player we bring in next year outside the draft is Casboult
I think it makes the club more attractive. But I don't think it's a massive issue either.

And as for just bringing in Casboult, I am OK with that. He fills a need, and is REALLY competitive, which is exactly what we require at CHF with the smalls at his feet. Jack deeper (how many oppo's want to play him one out in the square?).

We go to the draft with 2x first rounders.

And there has been injured players like Graham that will automatically make us a better side.

If the AFL are going to have a 3 strikes rule they should follow FIFAs lead and have it reset for finals

Tyrones best was way better, but you know you'll get MAX effort from Levi, that's what we can bank on.

Sucked to wait 6 weeks for Ty to have a big game, and be a passenger for the other 5.

Dusty has the right idea.
He's waiting until the bye before the finals to make his decision.
He will resign with us during that week giving us a massive confidence boost for finals and make every other team shit bricks knowing that Dusty is a free man and will play 120% for the Tiges.
We will then go on to win the flag and Dusty will take home the Brownlow and the Norm Smith.
I like your thinkin

"I'd just like to errrr, say that before my team plays finals and I possibly collect a Brownlow that I'm a mercenary and wanna play at the Roos".

Makes sense.
Precisely , I'm bailing on a top 4 side, ,all. Me mates , before finals and Brownlow to join a bottom club for an extra 100k a year ,,,OK

He was never going anywhere and will not go anywhere.

The brownlow alone forces him to stay at the tigers.

He will make millions in memorabilia if he stays, and FA if he leaves.

Noone other than a tiger fan will by memorabilia of dusty winning a brownlow for richmond.
