Bontempelli is not in the top 20 or top 50 players in the AFL - To think otherwise is ridiculous - You are caught up in the hype.

I think we're actually saying that Bontempelli is potentially a once in a generation player. Or at the very least it's been a long time since someone was so good at such a young age.



Based on what? Your gut feel from watching him for maybe a few hours?

Based on cold statistics, he was the 11th most productive player in the league over the past two seasons. Whatever the fault with the statistics, it is highly unlikely that he isn't a top 50 player in the league. In fact it's highly unlikely that the 11th most productive player isn't a top 20 player.

My gut feel from watching all games - Which is better than some arbitrary stats figure - As a reference point Bontempelli didn't make the AA team or the AA squad of 40.

As another reference point - Chad Wingard was AA in his second year - I wouldn't have rated him in the best twenty players in the AFL in that year - probably would have squeezed him into the top 50, even maybe the top 40. As a package Wingard's first two years were better than Bontempelli's.

I couldn't care much more about guys like Bontempelli or even Wingard, especially in Kyle Langfords player thread.

Langford is ours, possibly best utilised with his kicking and marking across the half forward line. He could turn into a very handy role player, if not more.


Should he become a 6+ marks per game and a 1 - 2 goal a game type forward then he could be a bloody good player.

Yup - and if you were including potential he could easily be argued top 10 in the league right now. The dogs are very lucky to have the Bont.
