I think Langfords peak is as a good AFL player (which is where he is now imo). There’s nothing wrong with that, he’ll forge a good career and will play 200 games. But he won’t be the next Cripps. We used pick 17 on him in an ordinary draft, it’s a good outcome.

Shouldn't need him in the midfield now so he can be that forward floating goalkicker, which are his strengths.

Due for a breakout year you'd think.

Yeah, people do say that. They say it a lot.

This record keeps playing over and over and over again.
Yeah, it's as if people haven't realised he's broken out as a winger who can kick a goal.

It's the Cale Hooker effect. People always remember Kyle for nonchalantly jogging away from a live ball to get off the ground. He has become a half reasonable player, but it just isn't what he is known for.

Yeah if people could put their prejudices aside they'd realise that ball actually jogged away from him.

Love you Kyle!

Need the full season of it. If he can replicate his goal average this year over the course of a full season people will notice. Not counting that Geelong game where he got injured immediately, he averaged 1.25 goals year. That's 29 goals from a full 23 games year.

I'd rather 20 touches a game and 15-20 goals a year than 15 and 25-30 personally.

yep. he's a really good ball user and one of the few who doesn't panic dispose and just dump kicks.
Can make him seem laconic but he's behind only Tippa as the guy i want kicking inside 50. Ideally he's kicking it to Tippa.

2020 and 2021 were good years for him too.

Fun fact

Jayden Laverde (2) has more full seasons than Kyle Langford (0)

What defines a full season in your book? Because 16/17 in 2020 is pretty damn close.

Big year for him. He has shown to be a good wing / forward but there is some competition for wing / forward spots.
Im hoping with Martin taking over the (forward pressing) wing role, Langford can finally be used as that hybrid medium marking forward we have been crying out for years from him to be.

would have thought at least 22/22 games is a full season

(these are my metrics which you asked for, could not care less what you consider a full season)
Fair enough.

Wasn't he dropped a lot early days, so you'd have to see whether he was injured and missed VFL games or just dropped because Langford.
Drafted end of 14, first year under Hird, 2nd-6th years under Worsfold. Then Truck for two years.

I don’t remember if Hird played him much, but 2016 he would’ve had plenty of games. He and Laverde were drafted together and seem to take it in turns having a bad run with injuries.

Then, like Parish after him, he was pushed back to the VFL to learn midfield craft for what felt like an eternity, while Worsfold played the senior players even when they weren’t in good form, made them leaders so they couldn’t be dropped and talked nonsense about forced changes.

Something something Myers tingly nerve in his thigh something most improved and had to drop himself to make way for Langford etc.

Langford has been best 22 for a few years now though, he always plays when he’s not injured.

Can he play the Gunston role or connector (ala Tom Lynch ADE).

It's not an area we struggle in but he'd make a great intercepting half back and set up with his foot skills.

Need to see him cement a position in 23.

Connector role a good one for him. He’s cemented a spot in the 22 in 2020. It’s just about finding him an actual spot to lock down, he’s been kind of a Jack of all trades playing where we need.

I really want to see Durham claim the other wing. He seems to be able to get up and down the ground quicker. Needs to build his bodyand to really polish his skills, although he has shown glimpses. His game against Sydney was probably a good reflection; brilliance one moment, clanger the next. He's daring and dynamic compared with Langford though, who feels like a very safe and conservative kind of player.

i think Langford gives that perception as he's a touch laconic in his movement, but he's generally looking for the best option and trying to execute vs. a panicked "just get rid of it" disposal.

I quite like him on HF to start with Durham and Martin on wings, but the 3 interchanging. I see Langford somewhat in a hybrid Langdon/Lynch role.
