Am I seeing this right? In the AFL dream team comp, you get 4 points for a tackle?! More than any other stat? I don't get it? It's just a tackle. A team could be led to the ball and chasing tails all day and get more tackles. I just don't think that stat should be worth that much.

Tackles are tougher than you think. I'm pretty sure be to be considered a tackle, it must cause a turnover or a stoppage, not just laying your hands around an opponent. And it isn't worth any other stat, goals are worth more.

Good or important tackles are crucial, but I do have a problem with this stat, as there are no clear lines as to what is a tackle and what is not, I have watched games where players will seemingly be unnoticed only to score heavily from 13 tackles around stoppages.

Also if you are the second tackler in, do you get the points?

No, it doesn't matter what the tackle causes, unless its illegal.

I think it's worth 4 points because there are less of those than marks, kicks and handballs for a team.

Are you kidding? A side can win a game by tackles (aka essendon versus freo).

Which is harder/rarer in an AFL match, a tackle or a kick? There is easily one point difference between them.

And consider players like Kirk or Davey. They are instrumental to their side's success, not because of their high-disposals, but because of their tackling.

I respect heavy tacklers more than high goal-scoring forwards or ball-collecting mids, simply because of their courage and bravery.

brett kirk laid 13 tackles this week he had i think less than 10 disposals he got 87 in dream team. If you can get somebody that tackles alot and still gets disposals is ideal.
