Cannot remember the last time i saw a Richmond outfit play 4 , stand up , uncomprimised quarters of footy against quality opposition .

This is what stood out to me more than anything today .

We won all 4 quarters

I challenge anyone to come up with a game where we played with such a consistant sustained effort .

been a real long time mate. That game where we beat Adelaide with Plough's 'Basketball Crap' comes to mind. That seems a lifetime ago.

Biggest thing I've noticed is the game on game increase in performance by the Tigers this year. I feel like if we were to play Carlton, Geelong, West Coast and Collingwood again right now the results would be different (not including Essendon, think the Dream Time factor played its part). Will be interesting to see what happens when we do take on Carlton again.

That tit for tat period throughout the whole third quarter, just wondering which team would kick the two in a row to break the ice, and the big Mullet steps up with moments to go :thumbsu:

Against quality opposition, maybe when we beat the top finishing Bummers in Rd22, 2001. That's all I got. But we were very hit and miss that year, several comprehensive losses. Nowhere near the kind of steel this group is building.

That game was despicable .

Wallace did the same thing he did when he was with the Bulldogs and they were the only team to beat essendon 2000 ... meant nothing in terms of genuine football and a genuine victory .

Sheeds was right ;)

Bombers had the cue in the rack that night and the real scenario played out when they demolished us the following week .

No cigar

Yeah they smacked us the following week, just like a few teams did during the season. They certainly didn't have the cue in the rack though, just happened to be one of the few games where Richo and Ottens both fired. Top of the ladder was very tight that year, they couldn't afford to take it easy. Was a very competitive game from what I remember.

But agree it wasn't in the same ball park as what we would want to see this group find themselves in the near future.

I found it quite enjoyable on the day. But point taken. In terms of a big win against a quality outfit over 4 quarters, yeah, can't think of one.

Yep the next week I was sitting in the crowd during that final feeling like an idiot for actually taking something from it.

Even against Melbourne this year we allowed them to play a quarter of football that may have been thier best quarter for the year.

Getting that bad quarter out of the game is HUGE. Cost us the game against Geelong.

Love whats happening but NEXT STEP.

Stop that small forward from kicking goals against us. Can we keep Milne to two goals next week.

That was the most boring game Ive been to. That Petifer provided the only highlight with that ripper of a mark was the only justification for being there.

Most Richmond fans were not so hungry for a win that they lost sight of the fact that it was a style of football that would take us nowhere.

Wallaces era was worse that Frawleys not just because he was less successful but NOTHING happened. Hardly any highlights at all.

Hardly a big win. We only scraped though.

I have learnt over the years to try not remember too much of what we did last week as it is just too stressful:D

I agree with IDGAF though in a 4qtr uncompromising effort where we made a stand out there where it matters by repelling every counter attack the hawks made until we finally broke their spirits and slammed the door on them with a crushing last qtr effort. Well done Dimma & boys you are sticking to a plan and gaining confidence from it:thumbsu:

We've arrived, no doubt about it. We might not play finals in 2012, but we are coming!
Not yet dude..we did arrive yesterday, next friday and beyond is where we need to stamp the "without a doubt" on it. The next test is to put away the aints. We do that on Friday night, I will call it, September here we come and big call maybe, but look out anyone we meet. Would dearly love to make finals and face up to the bummers first up and show them how ****ing lucky they were in the dreamtime to escape an arse raping..because and I will say it again, 5-8 in the third against them, 8-2 in the last against the dawks...and the flag favs looked like spooners...FFS...now we have Dwarf...sorry Crawf suggesting the bummers have what it takes to win the ****ing flag. This is the same flog who was saying that the flag was there for the taking by the dawks..;)

Damn right. Kicked the first 2 goals of that game and then started icing the clock after about 6 mins!

A horrible day when a big win is actually being booed by the winning supporters!

So happy with yesterday's win. Unfortunately couldn't make it to the game and only caught the second half on tv.

Was a bit worried as I sat down to watch the second half, having deliberately avoided hearing the live score, and knowing that we hadn't been able to get more than about 4 goals up, praying it wasn't another tight loss from a winning position.

As a kid when I used to go to games with dad and we would leave heartbroken week after week dad often used to turn to me and say "we snatched defeat from the jaws of victory", where we could have won it but ended up caving and losing by 4-5 goals. Yesterday I feard the same but was overjoyed with not just a win, but a real thumping accross the board.

A 4 quarter performance is a sign of where the teams' collective head is at.
1) they played with the intensity to get the lead
2) they maintained the lead when challenged

and that is the challenge that we haven't met so far.

the next one will be to be able to mount a comeback, get a lead and maintain that.

we still need to learn a lot about 'how to win'

looking at our backline (for example) we don't have maturity so I'm prepared for lapses

but absolutely stoked with yesterday. Go Tiges!

The game in the driving rain vs Port Adelaide in 2010 when everyone was telling us we were worse than Fitzroy??

That wasn't to the level of yesterday but it was a preview of how Hardwick's vision would develop.

There have been plenty of 4 qtr efforts, plenty.

Unfortunately there has been opposition sides that have also put in 4 qtr efforts.

Sometimes, you know, we get beaten by better teams. Sometimes we have been not good enough, physically or mentally, even though the effort is there.

And it will happen again.

So when it does will the same Tiges be labelled "weak as piss" again?
Will Jack need to be made an example of?

Bigfooty is just hilarious today, reminds of the school yard in grade 3. My team is shit when we lose, the culture is crap, sack the coach, drop the FF. And when we win they're all champions, all in the space of 6 days! Look at all the toast threads!

Wasnt so much we played 4q , for first time in 2012, our forward line really functioned well...every time it went down there , we looked like scoring, edwards king and nahas all stood tall and jack was holding his marks and always contributing. Yesterday we finished off our work...big change...more of the same please:thumbsu:

That was important no doubt but dont tell me watching yesterday you didn't think it was inevitable that Hawthorn would grab the momentum for the majority of a quarter and come back at us. I was nervous in the third thinking that this will be the quarter where they will kick some goals during the Richmond nap.

That it didnt happen was so refreshing.

The big thing that I noticed today was how confident and hard at it our backs were. Steven Morris is a bargain buy, and plays how I wish the tigers would have played the last 20 odd years. Big Griff at the kick outs just launching the footy past half way, a good way to clear a zone I think.
Rance made buddy his bitch. (although thankful he can't kick at goal to save himself)
Lets not forget that our back man who has been looking the best so far didn't even play in Grimes.
I would like to ask Dennis Cometti next year whether the Tigers still need to rebuild again as he said a few weeks ago.
The most ridiculous comment I have heard in a long time, referring to a team with copious amounts of talent and the majority of the team are 20 - 23.
I have a feeling that as they get a little bit older they might even get better.
