Ryan Clarke

Player Profile

The Sydney Swans recruited Ryan Clarke from North Melbourne ahead of season 2019 and he’s since shown promising signs as a young midfielder. The number four is a prolific ball-winner and can also be used to blanket a star on-baller, which he proved last year in shutting down gun Kangaroo Shaun Higgins and classy Magpie Steele Sidebottom. Clarke played 14 senior games in a stop-start 2019 campaign and has set his sights on cementing a spot in coach John Longmire’s best 22 this year. Draft history: 2015 National Draft selection (North Melbourne), No. 31 overall

Ryan Clarke

DOB:17 June 1997

Thats a good deal really, not bad

Agreed. Rohan was done at Sydney, had stopped improving and needed a change and we got a 21 year old who's a good runner and can find the ball 20 times a game. His disposal and decision making sound very questionable but I'm quite happy getting him and hoping for strong development for an utterly sunk cost in Rohan.

yep a player to get into the bottom 6-10 in the best 22 and could elevate a level, very nice pick up even forgetting he was basically a swap for rohan

According to North fans he is a player who will run hard for us all game and will get his hands on the ball a lot. They also said he isn't always great defensively but that he was played out of position a lot as he is actually a midfielder, but was played at halfback.

I hope Longmire intends to at least trial Clarke in the midfield and see how he goes.

Correct. Was played down back to fast track the defensive side of his game.

He is a gut runner and good on the spread. If you watch his draft videos you'll see how hard he gets to every contest. An accumulator too. Needs to work on his disposal as it can be sloppy at times (handball especially). If played in the midfield I think he'll kick a fair amount of goals given his work rate (seen it first hand when played there in the VFL). Fair amount of Ben Cousins in his game - running capacity and running style is mirror image almost.

All the best to him.

As part of the trade you're also getting Clarke is King . Treat him well. He's a good egg.

Sounds like he'll fit in well with Longmire's game plan. We're all about creating contests.

We got a lot of Hawthorn fans in the Buddy deal as well since they all had "Buddy" or "Franklin" in their usernames :)

FWIW he was described as a midfielder in the Swans welcome article.

Looks a good kid, listed at 87kg, so a good size. Captain at Melbourne Grammar, some leadership experience. Our midfield needs bolstering, so Ryan might be just the ticket. Watching with interest.

As effectively a three-way swap for Gary Rohan, it might be one of those win-win-win trades.

From Wiki:
Full name Ryan Clarke

Original team(s) Eastern Ranges (TAC Cup)
Draft No. 31, 2015 national draft
Debut Round 16, 2016, North Melbourne
vs. West Coast, at Domain Stadium

Position(s) Midfielder

Ryan Clarke (born 17 June 1997) is an Australian rules footballer playing for the Sydney Swans
in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was drafted by the North Melbourne Football Club
with their second selection and thirty-first overall in the 2015 national draft.[1] Prior to being drafted
he attended the prestigious Melbourne Grammar School and was captain of their First XVIII football team.
He made his debut in the thirty-two point loss against West Coast in round 16, 2016 at Domain Stadium.[2]
He was rewarded with the round nomination for the Rising Star in the round 18, forty-point win against the
Collingwood Football Club at Etihad Stadium where he recorded twenty-seven disposals,
twelve contested possessions, four inside-50s and three goal assists.[3] At the conclusion of the 2018 season,
Clarke was traded to the Sydney Swans.[4]

Clarke is the older brother of Essendon's Dylan Clarke.[5]

Sounds like about what we were getting out of hanners (last 2 years) except clarke is only 21. Also Clarke must be alot cheaper than Hanners. Sounds like a deal with alot of upside.

Any reason why North got rid of him given 20possession hard runners arent that easy to come by?
