Spoke to my wife's uncle who is a good friend of Higgos dad and he was told that Higgo wanted to have the meniscus taken out so he could get back earlier. The docs said if he wants to walk post career and enjoy life then he is best to go down the route of surgery to repair the damage. The tear through the meniscus was not in one spot but went right around like a split.

He was also told that 19 out if 20 times for the action that he sustained the injury he would have been looking at a knee reco so we are lucky he will be back for finals. Not sure what the current timeline is but sounded more closer to finals then sooner.

This is the 3rd or 4th lot of surgery he has had on the same knee I'm pretty sure so I'm tipping there isn't much cartilage left

North Melbourne star recruit Shaun Higgins is on track to return to senior football just before the finals, with his rehabilitation from a knee injury progressing well.

The livewire forward/midfielder said he's on track for a return in either round 20 or round 21.
Higgins, who has been a revelation since making the move from the Western Bulldogs, hasn't played since damaging the meniscus in his knee in the round seven win over St Kilda.

The 28-year-old has been sorely missed since injuring his knee, with the Kangaroos now hard-pressed to cement a top four position.

Higgins injures his leg against Saints.
"The knee is feeling really good and everything is on track," Higgins told The Age.

"I'll progress into running over the next two weeks; I'll start on the ultra g (anti-gravity treadmill) then progress to outside running.

"The important part is I get ready for that stage, there's no point rushing into it."

Rehabilitation is all too familiar for Higgins, who was plagued by injury during his time at the Bulldogs, but played all 24 games in his first season at North last year.

While another spell on the sidelines is clearly not ideal, Higgins has taken it in his stride.

"The initial frustration of an injury is prevalent early, especially with an injury when you continue to play the game out and you think you'll only miss one or two weeks," he said.

Both internally and externally, Higgins is seen as a key cog in North Melbourne's premiership tilt and an "X-factor" that can break open a game in September.

He was one of the Kangaroos' best in last year's semi-final win over the Swans at ANZ Stadium.

"We mapped out from the start a plan to make sure I get myself every opportunity to come back but internally no one's importance is overrated.

"We are one team that relies on everyone to play their role."

Since the round nine 67-point win over Carlton, the Kangaroos have won one game from their last five.

The results include a 26-point loss to Sydney, a 31-point loss to Geelong, a gritty 9-point loss to Hawthorn and a 33-point defeat to Adelaide.

All four of those sides are in the top five on the ladder and North Melbourne now finds itself seventh and with an eight-point game against West Coast this weekend.

Despite recent results, Higgins still believes his side is well placed heading into the pointy end of the year.

"I think we're still in a really good position," he said.

"All teams are so even now. We have played some really quality opposition over the last month or five weeks.

"It's always frustrating to watch (and not play). We know the important of the next four weeks; it can really set up our season."

Jacobs and Garner are one week away from playing for Weribee.
Higgins and Wright are three weeks away.
If by round 22 we get all four back for finals il be optimistic about the year.

Wood and McDonald look touch and go for finals. 5 weeks off and no VFL to build fitness up if we make it further.

I think Wood could make it back. He is very fit and wouldn't have been that long out - may need to be managed in games more than usual.

Couldn't imagine LMac playing this year though, probably best to hit pre-season flat out instead for 2017.
