3 elite juniors, 1 father son, 2 academy picks
All three are Academy picks foe Sydney. Heeney, Hiscox and Davis. While Heeney ia very highly rated the others are costing Sydney peerty close to their true draft value. The Academies balance the issue that Sydney (and the others) have the opportunity to have a range of draftees based at home. Counters some of the advantages the Melbourne clubs have.

Unfortunately disadvantages the WA and SA teams, but equality for WA and SA is invisible in the AFL's agenda.

This is how I would view it if we did jag Wright. As we've seen this year, carrying 2 'pure' ruckmen is detrimental when they lack a lot up forward. Sandilands, or Clarke in the future, are more than capable of rucking 80% of the game. We just don't have a capable 'part time' ruckman right now.

For me if Wright slips, you go with him. You simply don't get 'top-5' rated forward prospects elsewhere (unless you're a victorian team and someone has a sook about living in NSW/SA). At the moment all our eggs are in the Apeness basket. Down back, I feel we have a bit more luxury with Silvagni in addition to the Pearce and Smith.

While the point about mobility being important is correct, I still feel that there is absolutely a role for the massive contested marking KPF. Let's face it, Pav is not really that mobile up forward any more, and he goes all right. Tippett's issues I feel are due to him being a) a uncompetitive spud and b) he is best used a bit further away from goal as a CHF.

Combo ruck key positions are gold. I agree, having two pure rucks creates structural issues. Image having Clarke in the ruck 80% of time and Wright and Apeness providing the 20%. If Clarke gets injuried, then Wright and Apeness can split 50/50.

Also, Durdin can play in the ruck too.

Sorry when you said highly rated, I thought you included next year as well.

I was thinking of Dunkley, Heeney and one other academy player available next year.

All 3 are meant to be top 10 picks

I would think so, but I also expect the Hawks shopped him around pretty cheaply during trade week so doubt we are interested.
We have limited spots on the senior list this year. We were only ever going to trade for either a best 22 player or a future a grader. As at this stage Grimley looks like neither we were never going to trade for him. Rookie draft is very different. Though having said, I'll be surprised tbh.

You would hope Dunkley kicks better than his dad!

So Sydney-Brisbane kids get a chance to stay in Sydney-Brisbane (should limit it to one in 1st three rounds one after 3rd round) Melbourne kids get 55%+ of staying home and WA/SA kids 10%. Seems fair.

They argue that without that guarantee of staying in their home city/state the AFL would lose access to those young athletes to other sports.

Because other sports operate only in Sydney and Brisbane, apparently.
I have no problem with it for Sydney and Brisbane. Melbourne gets its natural advantage. So where is the equalisation efforts to help WA and SA?

This will never happen but I've always thought that Each club should hve a zone from which they could select one player every year, and that that selection would work the same way as the current father-son selection. Where by, if another club wanted the same player then they would have to bid for them.
