to me .... even when the ball gets on the ground he is better than Chol .... definitely we get a better contest at least ....

Yep. Competes harder, attacks the ball in the air better.

I felt he out rucked Grundy.

Not a bad target up fwd too. this guy has had virtually no opportunity. I'm hugely relieved that CJ's been playing well. He's had a few good practice matches and I reckon will get Games as soon as available.

Scragged and held all night and still looked threatening everytime the ball was in the air.

8 million dollars well spent by the pies.

Grundy. Treloar. Beams.

Well done ed

That’s what I was thinking.

Nankervis, CCJ, and Balta wouldn’t be on much more than half his wage and they all did well against him.

The massive worry for the pies is that his form dropped off a cliff once he signed that 8 mil deal.

It’s funny the pies board is talking about poaching CCJ as just about every list manager would be looking at their youth knowing that there isn’t a heap in the cupboard.

Give it to Chol for the first few weeks with the message that he has until CCJ comes back to make the spot his own.

If he doesn't, then ....

Showed enough. I reckon he might be a tad lumbering to be a pure KPF, but he's certainly capable of playing the KPF/second ruck role.

Once Lynch is back, I'm not sure that the forward line functions with Riewoldt, Lynch, CCJ all there, so structurally there's a bit to be experimented with. If Balta is going to play second ruck, does CCJ still have a place? Can't play those 3 in the forward line at once, too slow and top heavy.

CCJ might allow Balta to spend more time at CHB though which is good, and drift forward occasionally and it means he and Nank can rotate pretty much every goal and centre bounce.

We played Soldo/Nank & Lynch/Reiwoldt

Nank with CCJ or Chol & Lynch/Reiwoldt will be a change, but it shouldn't mess up the structure too badly.

Also means Nank can spend more time resting as although he is a work horse, he is our sole actual ruckman at the club. Dimma often takes Nank off for long spells in the third Q and he comes back fresh for the last, hence he plays some cracking last Q's. With CCJ we won't lose as much in the ruck and around the ground, compared to Grigg in 2017 and Chol last year. And he is a thread down forward far more so than Chol.

The thing that will have the biggest impact on how many talls a team can play at any one time will be the reduction in rotation numbers this season. Talls will have to be mobile with big tanks to be considered over smaller but faster players. From what I saw on Friday night, albeit on a screen, playing Balta as a relief ruck costs the team two ways. First it disrupts the defensive structure while adding nothing particularly productive to the centre bounces. Chol looked promising as a roaming tall who can compete as a ruck in stoppages around the ground but will be found out against specialist rucks in the centre. CCJ looked the most at home in the centre bounces, was also threatening as a deep forward but appears to be less mobile than Chol. So in a decision as to which of Chol or CCJ to play, the question is who can be the most productive over an entire game. Either way, we would get value out of them so it's an interesting conundrum for the selection committee.

Collingwood were blaming the hubs last year, he didn't like them. I'm more inclined to think he is 'protecting himself' now he's on such a good salary, will be curious to see how he responds this year.

Would have been interesting had he gone home to Adelaide and stunk it up.

Either way, I'm glad we stuck by CCJ and hope he can get some game time to show us what he can do given the opportunity!!
