When he says senior selection, he means senior selection in the VFL right? Nothing in the half a dozen games I saw him play in the VFL showed that he was even close to being VFL standard.

No sporting club anywhere in the world boasts a 100% recruit success rate. If you expect every late/rookie pick to be a Fantasia or Draper, you’re going to be sorely disappointed.

Neither, however in Smack's case it appears to have worked. So at least there has been some sort of success. No doubt though that on average its not a successful tactic.

It's not a tactic from the perspective of development of the player.

It's a list management tactic mostly used to manipulate the list to leave numbers free for the next year.

It's neither successful nor unsuccessful.
