Retired #40: Luke Lavender - retires due to persistent injury - 18/2

Went for a shoulder reconstruction according to the last injury update, and will be out of contact training until around Christmas. Crow at least seems to have the impression that the kid will get another contract. :)

Full contact after Christmas, building up training volumes until then.
Tall pair Tom Bellchambers and Luke Lavender required off-season shoulder surgery and Crow says both are expected to return to full training following the team’s upcoming holiday break.

“Luke Lavender as well has been able to get some work in over the off-season.

“He will also be building up his training volume and football-based training in the lead-in to Christmas and then both of those will be looking to get their full tick of approval for full contact after the Christmas break.”

Sad news for the young bloke. But does that mean we can sign somebody to fill his spot?

We could but the email said we won’t be filing it. It’s only a CatB rookie spot anyway

I just can't believe we wasted a valuable category B rookie pick. In fact I believe he may have even been our first pick in that year out of the category B rookies. Pretty much wasted a first rounder. Sack Dodoro!

Eades one year.
Lavender 2 years later.

Plus the relisting of Steinberg.

3 other players could've been on Essendon's list now.

Odd point.

No sporting club anywhere in the world boasts a 100% recruit success rate. If you expect every late/rookie pick to be a Fantasia or Draper, you’re going to be sorely disappointed.
