Good story and a solid gap filler in 2019/20, but Gibbons' days were numbered when we had small forward options who weren't repurposed mids

Wouldn’t have liked him to have played 1 more year as a midfielder. See what we could of got out of him in the midfield.

A bit unlucky to be out of contract with the list squeeze well and truly on.

Would not have been unhappy to see him kept on, but just as happy to give our young smalls increased opportunities in 2022 and beyond.

Good luck to Gibbo with whatever comes next. I'm glad he was able to live out his dream of playing at the top level.

Not that he really played there, but another decent mid who could have used a decent ruck to place it to his advantage. I guess at that size and pace, you need Diesel or Sam Mitchell levels of awareness and skill.

Feel he might get a another go somewhere. Lots of heart.

Saddened by Gibbo's departure, but I also felt for a while that it was a possibility, list spots are at an premium these days.

Sad to see my man delisted. Made even more sad by him never being given a proper opportunity to show his wares as a midfielder.

2 x JJ Liston Medallist (just missed out on a 3rd), Norm Goss Medallist in a premiership team, all as a midfielder, yet we tried to turn him into a small forward.

I'd like to think that we would offer him a contract with our VFL team, but I can see him heading back to Williamstown.

I liked his energy and thought he was better than average. Certainly worked much harder than most of our smaller players.

He just didn't have the weapons to be an AFL level mid.
At his small size, you need elite disposal or running ability to cut it at the higher level.

I do feel for Michael as you never want to see anyone get delisted, he always gave 100%. This delisting says more about our list and where it is going than it does about Michael Gibbons

Realized his dream to play one game, and put together another 40 or so, so well done Gibbo, but like others have noted, this only indicates the depth we are establishing, and there was a bit of Teaging going on as well. A good average player....

First sentiment that arose in my mind. The amount of times he referred to spending his days laying carpet before coming to Carlton, I just feel for the bloke. He'd be gutted and contemplating spending 5 days a week on all fours right now. All the best Gibbo, I hope it lands the right way round for ya!


Totally in my imagination, but I'm thinking this might have also been a personality decision for the group moving forward.
