Welcome to North Melbourne Thomas Murphy

DOB: 19/01/1998
Height: 187cm
Weight: 80kg
Recruited from: Dandenong Stingrays
Position: Midfielder

What to expect: The 19-year-old midfielder is an elite kick, known for his power and speed.

Murphy has been training with the Roos' VFL team over the past fortnight.

A teammate of Luke Davies-Uniacke at the Stingrays. Had a strong year in the TAC Cup.

What the recruiters say: “He’s a good rebounding defender with a penetrating kick, that can also go through the midfield and forward.

“We were able to get a good look at Tom recently when he trained with our VFL squad. He’s mix of speed and endurance was very appealing and we think his penetrating kick can really open the game up.” - Mark Finnigan, NMFC National Recruiting Manager

Height 187cm
Weight 79kg
Current Team Dandenong
Birthday January 19, 1998

STRENGTH:
Kicking, vision, versatility, vertical jump
IMPROVEMENTS: Consistency, inside game

SUMMARY: Tom Murphy is an interesting prospect who given a clear run of injuries, could be a diamond in the rough. He has shown over the past 18 months he can play anywhere on the field, often settling at half-back or on a wing. He is a fantastic kick and is able to pinpoint passes across any distance, while he also impressed at the Victorian State Combine with his vertical jump score of 67cm despite coming off injury at times this year. His consistency needs to improve as does his inside game, but there’s a bit to work with when it comes to Murphy.

Seems to me that we're really targeting height. Floyd may have been a similar player, but was 3 inches shorter than Murphy. Of the 7 players we've brought in, only Hartung is not at least 6-1... And considering that there is only one KPP/Ruck in that lot, I think that's telling.

Didn’t play for dandy in his underage year, got picked up in his top age year but only played a limited number of games due to soft tissue injuries. Got brought back as a 19 year old and showed heaps of progress, had 2 really decent games in the VFL for Williamstown.

Perfect pick for the rookie list. Not much exposure, big upside.
