If updated to today, boomer have overtaken Barry Round number of senior games last weekend.
\ 6|Brent Harvey | 416 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 43 | 2 | 0 | 10 | 471

To break Bradley's record, Harvey will have to play all games this year (486), next year (508) and 16 games in 2018 (assuming he plays 2 NAB next year and 2 NAB in 2018, and not counting finals). Either way with finals or not finals and NAB. Boomer will have to play until 2018 to break the all time senior game record.

I reckon he can do it!

Yesterday I posted in the main board thread about Boomer Harvey and quoted the 400 gamers from James Hothersall Football Facts and Feats site.
http://www.oocities.org/jsmooth_00001/Footyfacts.html

The link in SJ's post in the 3rd post doesn't work so I'm not sure if its Hothersall's site but one more old timer has been added as having played 500 games

I didn't know the number of Preseason/ Night Series games Boomer had played so I listed the 400 gamers from the site. But today I looked up my 2016 AFL Record Season Guide and saw it was 44.

So for an apples v apples comparison as the SANFL in the 1960's started adding Preseason/Night series games to players totals and that is one reason why so many SANFL players are in the top 10 and top 20. There was the Coca Cola Cup, Escort cup, Foundation Cup those 1970's NFL night series games etc and players could play 5, 6, 7 or 8 games in some years, even though 2 to 4 was the norm added to SANFL players yearly total games played outside the premiership season. The SANFL players below with night series games are only those they played when playing in the V/AFL. The table red+black did on the previous page is an excellent job.

That means Boomer has played 426 + 2 + 10 + 44 = 482 before Saturday night's record breaking V/AFL game so the new top 8 list is

MOST SENIOR GAMES

528 by Craig Bradley (1986-2002). Port Adelaide (98), Carlton (375 premiership & 27 night Series), South Australia (15 State of Origin & 4 state league) & Australia International Rules (9).

500* by Harry Coventry (1898-1927). Coventry played the majority of his games with Latrobe. Coventry also played with Mersey(1911-12) and Launceston (1910). It was estimated that Coventry played in excess of 500 games (Atkinson 1989), but this record tionable as Latrobe did not become a senior club until 1910. Recent research by Ross Smith (2006) estimated that Coventry’s total is below 200 games.

482 by Brent Harvey (1996- ) North Melbourne ( 426 premiership & 44 night series), Victoria (2) and Australia International Rules (10)

470 by Barry Round (1970-91). Footscray (135), South Melbourne/Sydney (193), Williamstown (110), Victoria (8) & VFA (3).Also played 21 VFL night series matches.

467 by Peter Carey (1971-1988). Glenelg (448) & South Australia (19).

466 by Michael Tuck (1972-1991). Hawthorn (426 premiership & 29 n/s) and Victoria (11).

455 by Greg Phillips (1976-1993). Port Adelaide (343), Collingwood (84 premiership & 8 n/s) & South Australia (20).

452 by Russell Ebert (1968-1985). Port Adelaide (391), North Melbourne (25 premiership & 1 n/s) & South Australia (35).

Would be a great achievement if he does, what he has done already is unbelievable. But until that time Craig Bradley should be regarded as the games record holder, Harvey the record holder in this current comp.
It seems however its a bit much to ask for the AFL to recognise Bradley.

I've been planning on updating the table RussellEbertHandball
r+b if your table is in excel format can I make a suggestion that you gold on use some colour to highlight the cell with the players name in it, of who has been admitted to the Australian Hall of Fame as by my quick look apart from Harvey and Fletcher who aren't eligible yet about 1/3rd of those players aren't in there.

You have only listed years played in the VFL/AFL. Bradley should be (1981-2002)

Peter Carey's figure of 448 for Glenelg must include some pre/season comp or other SANFL comp matches because when adding up the Glenelg roster and finals matches for 1971 to 1988 tally only reaches 423 I think - and that would be without taking into account matches Carey missed through injury or suspension or away on State duty.

Yes I basically said that - well about all the South Aussies who played in the SANFL from the 1960's thru to the mid 1990's when they wound up the Foundation Cup series. He averaged almost 25 games per year which means no injuries and every year finals if it was only premiership season games.

Not my list, I just cut and pasted it from the site and adjusted for Boomer.

Does the AFL Record Season Guide cover SANFL and WAFL?
Marginally, they have the premiership winners, Magarey and Sandover medalists, Oatey and Simpson medalists for BOG in GF and maybe the list the Williams and Simpson medalists from state games. The TAC Cup in total gets more pages than these 2 comps.

Can we get Shaun Burgoyne to 400 games? He will get there in 2019 if not sooner.

https://australianfootball.com/players/player/Shaun+Burgoyne/14435

157 - Port Adelaide (AFL)
196 - Hawthorn (AFL)
26 - Port Adelaide (SANFL)
26 - Night Series / Pre-Season (see discussion below)
4 - International
1 - State/Intra-state League (Dream Team game)
---------------
410

Would his other representative games be included? 3 games for the Indigenous All Stars which were not State of Origin games. His 1 game for the Dream Team is probably not quite a State of Origin game, more likely, a State/Intra-state League game.[/COLOR]

24 preseason/night series games according to page 713 of AFL Record Season Guide 2018 book

Is there any clarification of that number? I assume it does not include NAB Challenge (2013-16) and JLT Series (2017-) as they tend to not be considered equivalent to prior pre-season competitions. One way to know would be to compare with the AFL Record Season Guide from previous years.

2016 AFL Record Season Guide says 20 so that means he played 4 JLT games in 2016+2017 - I attended one of those games in 2017 at Noarlunga Oval - South Adelaide's home ground about 35km south of Adelaide. So it could be 25 or 26 now.

so he should finish somewhere amongst this lot:

9th - 445 David 'Dolly' Christy
10th - 441 Dustin Fletcher
11th - 436 Kevin Murray
12th - 435 Kevin Bartlett
13th - 433 Darrell Baldock
...
20th - 410 Shaun Burgoyne

I think we need the 2013 and 2014 Guides to know how many he played pre NAB Challenge and JLT Series.

What numbers do they report for Brent Harvey and Dustin Fletcher. My table on page 1 says 41 and 34 respectively.

Do you know if they included NAB Challenge and JLT Series?
