yeh doesnt seem to be going quite where you intended it rodogs! :D

still ya gotta laugh. noble intentions though - well done. :thumbsu:

I thought his suggestion was refreshing too, but yeah -- a wee bit premature; there's still a lot of spleens to vent yet.

I get the feeling this would be a good year to remake 'Year of the Dogs'. Lots of storylines, (probable) disasters and sackings, fresh starts, elephant walks...

This is a 'line in the threads'.

It's time to make a stand as a Bulldog BF contributor in 08'. With the season almost upon us, and this board suffering its first meltdown after friday nights performance, I think it's time we BF members and posters made a few keyboard hero commitments. Here are a few:
  1. I will refrain from 'sky is falling' posts/threads until at least the end of round 4. Instead I will be constructively critical with my posts.
  2. I will not get personal and bag other BF bulldog posters just because they have a different opinion to me.
  3. I will not go on the main board and give fellow dogs supporters a bad name by taking pot shots at clubs in similar financial positions OR with similar levels of success.
  4. If the dogs happen to win a few games early on I will not become arrogant and boast about upcoming flags on the main board.
  5. I will give all new players at least three games before declaring them duds.

i'm in, sounds ok to me

The season doesn't start until March 23rd.....that is almost a month away.

I will refrain from any predictions of doom and gloom until the trial matches are over and the games are worth 4 premiership points.

I think i already post that anyway, but i don't see what is difucult about. The optimism in here has declined since Friday when it was quite high. So we got beaten in the NAB cup, I don't see Collingwood supporters freting after they lost to Adelaide saying that they'll get the spoon, Wait till the season proper starts. It's better to enjoy the year and not win much than be angry. I come here to see the good stuff and not the bad.

You should all grow up and not post like it's doomsday, It's a childish reaction, and most of us should be past it, but if you do moan and groan just don't ruin others experience.

And of course the number one rule is Bulldogs through and through

Last time checked you can't win four points in Feb little lone a flag.

Er, you mean 'let alone'.

Agree we shouldn't panic just yet, we're not the only side to bomb out of the NAB. It's a poisoned chalice anyway, the winner is doomed to bottom 4 in the real season.

However, that said, the signs aren't great so far. I fear our current bunch of players may just not be good enough. It's a hard thing to accept after the glorious end to 2006, when we were the New Big Thing and the Hope of Victoria. It's no wonder that our disappointment has plumbed new depths in recent months, as our lack of success has been so unexpected.

Someone said they want a flag in the next 10 years. By then there could be 2 extra teams in the league, which will make it that much harder for us to get there.

The sky isn't falling....it has fell.

We will finish last!

Benno for cripes sake

Let's look at a couple of extenuating circumstances.

Dog's have first intra-club practice match, on I presume dampish ground and probably slippery ball.

Dog's play first NAB cup game on a very damp ground in high humidity with a very slippery ball only really conducive to a short game.

Dog's play second NAB cup game on a firmish ground with roof closed with a drier ball and get whipped by a side that have not travelled and probably played in similar conditions the week before.

I'm usualy shot down for critising them, but I will reserve my opinion until I see a few of the real games rather than the NAB cup and practice matches.

But I am starting grind my axe, and I have doctors on my mind at the moment.

That was me. Those 2 teams shouldn't be a worry. If we can win a flag we can beat them. But really the AFL is designed for teams to rotate between top and bottom 8 and with 1 team winning a premiership each year we should achieve that goal.

That's a really good point that I'm surprised no one thought of (including myself). But i would have thought going from wet to dry would be easier than dry to wet.

HAHAH I read it as we were crap in all weather conditions so I will wait a few more games to see if weget any better. :)

It all sounds so simple the way you put it. :D On that theory we should have had a couple of flags by now. Tell Brisbane they shouldn't have had 3 in a row, and neither can anyone else. Take your turn!

If we don't then the club is doing something wrong since the big clubs can't really use the money like they used to. The odds say we should. We have waited long enough

People should be entitled to say what they think about the doggies even if it extreamly negative. In my opinon we will finish in the bottom 4, but for some reason that makes me wrong???????

ahh on weekend players missing;

Gilbee
Griffin
Ray
Williams
Gia
Harbrow
Welsh (only played a fraction of game with virus)

a.k.a Not full strength side

Forward line consistented of Minson,Hill,Stack,Tiller,Wight; are any of these going to be playing come round 1, maybe Minson but none of others, McDougal played at CHB whole game which will also not happen come round 1, I would call these experimental tactics.

You are probably the same sort of person who came out after Brisbane thrashed us in last years NAB cup and said the sky was falling then...[/QUOTE]

Gee we went on to have a great year, didn't we!!

Different year. Its one loss. tactiucally we are unlikelyt o play the same sort of football in the real season proper both because of the different rules and interchange restrictions. Its unlikely that if 4 points were up for grabs Eade would have left Doog's on Lucas for the game. Whether we as football followers like it or not the NAB Cup is used to try things out and use players in different positions or roles in the team. Personally, I don't take too much notice of the NAB Cup. yeah its nice to win, but it doesn't really matter.

I admire your sentiments Rodogs and well done for trying to set some sort of standard.
Unfortunately as disappointing as our prospects appear to many here, it appears to me as though our supporters will also be pretty much rubbish this year. If we make the finals (which is still mathematically possible if my calculations are correct) I hope you all stay the **** home.

Yep you're entitled to your opinion and that does not make you wrong. it makes you pessimistic and probably lacking a sense of reality and perspective since one pre-season loss doesn't ruin a season. What makes you think that we will finish bottom 4? It you have an opinion you should have a reason for it.

Personally, I think we'll battle out for a lower position in the 8. I think we have enugh talent in the side to win enough games to make the 8, but wont seriously challenge for the top 4. I think that guys like Cooney, Griffin and Ray will take the next step as footballers and that Everitt, Grant, Williams and Harbrow will become regular's in our team.

I think that Doog's will hold down CHB and for the most part will be a solid, but not spectacular performer. He will beat most of his opponents, but will struggle against class performers, though he will battle hard. Morris and Lake (nee Harris) will be our key backmen taking the oppositions most dangerous forward.

Johnson will be less productive and some will say thus disappointing, but I think it is a case of opposition teams becoming smarter around him and also age catching up with him. His endeavour will never be questioned.

I could go on about the positives in the side, but I'd be here all night. The negatives don't worry me too much at this stage. Pre-season premiers rarely amount to much.

Seems to be a lot of 'extreme' opinions on here at the moment.

It's either: The NAB cup doesn't matter, we'll be fine, or it's : We suck so bad after the NAB cup that our season is already over.

How about a middle ground. We played bad in the NAB and I'd really expected a lot better than what was an unacceptable performance, however, we weren't at full strength and while there weren't many positives to come out of it, at least we have another month to pick up on the negatives that were found out.

Having said that. I'm not signing the stupid petition :) If people want to lose their cool on this board, I say bring it on - it's a major part of why it's here isn't it?!?
