Saad to honour Christchurch victims

Essendon defender Adam Saad will wear specialised boots for Sunday’s round one clash against GWS in honour of the victims of the Christchurch tragedy.

In conjunction with Puma, Saad will run out with the message #westandtogether on his boots alongside the date of the attack, which claimed the lives of at least 50 people last week.

All fans will then have the opportunity to bid for them online, with all proceeds of the auction to be donated to the victims.

The 24-year-old said he wanted to honour the victims of the mass killing, which took place last Friday in two mosques in New Zealand, with a message of unity.

Essendon and GWS players will join all other AFL teams this weekend by wearing black armbands in memory of the victims.

Bidding for the boots will close at 7pm AEDT on March 29.

Essendon supporters sleep on him.

Seriously good. I expected his run and dash, but didn’t realise he was that strong in the contest, especially one-on-one.

Very consistent too. Fast becoming one of our most important players. We look the most threatening when he breaks the lines.

Outnumbered and out of position a few times and still managed to at least halve the contest. Saad, Hurley and Frang were the only reason it was kept so close. Could have been much worse without those three (HM to Ambrose too).

Said blokes will be under siege again this week if our midfield isn't going to function or work two ways.
The amount of entries the dees got against a fully functional Geelong outfit was frightening

I like his 1v1 work on dangerous players but I prefer when he comes in with the spoil from a metre or two away using his closing speed.

When he stays tight he has a habit of resting his arm around the players guts, he's not holding but the umps always ping him for the hold.
