His rate of improvement has been incredible.

Having watched him at VFL level quite a bit, I will be honest I didn't think he would be a long term player. Had to many deficiencies and I just didn't think he would overcome them. Not only has he ironed out his weaknesses, his strengths are elite.

If Joe is the most exciting player in the AFL to watch Walla is not far behind.

Remember after the preseason how he was apparently lazy, self-satisfied and not going to improve?

In no way can he be compared to Cyril in terms of the impact he has had on the game but his stats are tracking very well and still has room to improve.

Similar sort of player in that they both can have an influence in different parts of the ground and both enjoy the defensive part of the game as much as kicking a goal.

Based on raw numbers Walla is actually more of an attacking threat and he has played a lot of games at half back.

1%ers are the main difference there.

Walla is playing well but IMO he isn't in the same ball park as Cyril..Cyril is special.

He used to be compared with Ackermanis all the time. Curious to see that compared.

I don't see the Acker comparison.

Acker was a far more complete player than both Cyril or Walla.

that goal was unbelievable. He made a goal from basically nothing. He also showed players like Collyer and Green how to nail a goal on the run with that sealer. What an inspiration he is to our team

The biggest difference between the two is at the same age Rioli was in his 6th season with over 100 games under his belt, Walla is in his 2nd and has only just notched up 40 games.

Something that's probably been lost in the disastrous last three quarters is that he's probably kicked goal of the year as well.

    We have a match winner!

Even when everyone else was down, Heppell and Walla kept us in the game

Goal of the year. The persistence and creativity of the dude to keep the ball alive and moving toward goal, not to mention the initial gather, and then the hutzpah to pull out the nutmeg in the goal square...
