Player Watch #43: Derek Eggmolesse-Smith

He has lots of AFL traits but a few that need working on. In the end AFL is cut-throat, you can't afford to be a project player after 3 years because as a half back especially we have some really good ones, and it is also a spot where you players come in and learn the game, Stack 2019. Who knows this year, Cumberland, Ralph Smith, Naish, maybe even Dow, new draft picks.

Derek may get picked up via a rookie list, or go back to the VFL and work on his weaknesses. He has the tools to get back to the AFL as a better player in a year or two maybe, like Aarts or any number of mature age pick-ups, because he has the talent to play AFL as he has already shown.

The challenge is there if he's up for it.
thanks for the well thought out points.

Got any puns though?

naishy (pear) has good skills and apparently elite kicking. But he seemed to be knocked off the ball and some may say afraid a la egg.

We'll he's in the firing line that's for sure. Similar things were said of Houli and Short in their early days, although Naish very outside. I year to change that it would seem. We haven't finalised our lists yet anyway.

Not everyone is going to improve as much as houli/short

Bit rough keeping Grigg, Ellis for centuries and delisting Des for being too soft

Can't agree on Grigg being soft, very good player. Ellis was also a good player for some years before we didn't need him any more. If the lists had not been shortened DES may still be on it, but we have half backs aplenty. There is a lot of young players being delisted before their time at the moment.

Saw him live at the GWS game in Sydney and he was utterly non-competitive. No knock on the kid but I dont see why he is rated so highly. Decent speed , decent kick but cant get his own ball. I think he is gone at the end of next year

the egg rolls on...

Delisted Tiger Derek Eggmolesse-Smith will be considered for a training spot at Punt Road and is eligible to join the Tigers again via the SSP after going through the drafts without a new home.

Good on him. He’s done the work to get himself there. Is he best 22? No.

is he as good a prospect as anyone else for that list spot? Absolutely. How many blokes get drafted and never play a game?

lovely to see he’s become a dad too. Derek junior junior
