The AFL should just get rid of the sub and have 5 on the benchThe AFL should make a rule that a debuted is not allowed to start as the sub

I like that idea, or better yet - 5 on the bench and one sub, in case someone gets injuredThe AFL should just get rid of the sub and have 5 on the bench
Even better, 6 on the bench.I like that idea, or better yet - 5 on the bench and one sub, in case someone gets injured
100% agreeThe AFL should just get rid of the sub and have 5 on the bench
He didn't play well enough last year, that's the pretty straightforward reason why he slid, at least from my perspective as someone looking on from outside with no insight into his interviews with clubs etc. Now there may well have been good reasons why he didn't play as well as expected last year, I've heard mention of glandular fever although I can't confirm that. He had periods in some games where he was very good and looked like he was ready to take over, but then would often go missing.Question for noobermensch. How do you assess the relative strengths and weaknesses of ADW against someone like Josh Rachelle who he seems to resemble, at least in terms of play style?
And how does he compare to Jasper Alger, who seems a similar type and is also debuting this weekend.
He seems a good type and constructive with the ball, I could understand him falling in the draft if he was 175cm but at 185 it almost seems too good to be true

Conclusion: I'm sooo old.“To be making my AFL debut is a lifelong dream come true for me. I have strived for this moment since I was 12 years old.”
Life long goal. 6 years. 6 years is how long. 2019![]()

I've been comparing him with Kyle Reimers, and I think he's a perfect rookie pick type. He's got talent and x-factor, but also has been super inconsistent. I think anyone that watched Reimers play will say the same thing about him - it was the inconsistency that ultimately cut Reimers career short not a lack of talent. Having him on the rookie list means that its almost a free hit. If he comes good and maximises his potential then fantastic, and if not then no big deal really.
In regards to some of those other player comparisons, I wasn't a big Jasper Algar guy last draft so you'd probably be better asking someone that rated him higher. Algar for me was also an inconsistent talent that could look a million bucks when flying for marks or producing a piece of magic, but also didn't produce a whole lot at Talent League or Champs level. He could well be an excellent pick, but I thought he was risky.
Rachele's junior career was effected by covid, and I think he might have been injured a bit in his top age year? Its a while ago and I wasn't watching as closely back then... but none of the vic based kids taken in 2020 or 2021 had as much exposed form as you would have ideally liked so everything was a bit more of a risk. I think ADW is bigger and has more power but less speedy, can pull off some skilfull stuff but isn't as consistently excellent with his skills. Neither ADW or Rachele are exactly demons with the defensive actions.
Overall I'll say that ADW is coming from a fair way back. Its great that he's getting a game this early, which suggests that he's done a lot of work and has earned it, but lets not expect too much from him and set ourselves up for disappointment.

reckon he competed really well, got up the ground a few times too tin chasedI see they sent him one out in the goal square at times, must have some faith in his 1 v 1 ability
Always believe in giving debutants a 2nd game, unless they really struggle. Think adw will be better for the runHad a few moments under pressure where his inexperience showed and he double clutched a few but overall he competed well and the goal was nice. Hope he stays in for a couple more games.
agreed, he looked like he was up for the challenge and physicality of AFL football. Competed well but looked half a step at times.Had a few moments under pressure where his inexperience showed and he double clutched a few but overall he competed well and the goal was nice. Added a year to his contract.
Is making as good a go of it as possible as a rookie selection. In the seniors before the bye of year 1 and looks like he could well stick there.
I reckon Scott likes him a bit.Added a year to his contract.
