Good players usually give some hints early of their top end abilities until they go through the inconsistent development period.

He's found the goals and made an impact in several plays from his first few senior forays which is a good sign.

Challenge now is to follow a Corey Jones trajectory rather than a Kieran Harper one.

Be average to good for a few years, get concussed and never be the same again?

He'll probably be moved to half back for a few years in order to 'learn how to defend,' so I'm not sure Jones will be his trajectory.

Jokes aside CJ averaged 1.3 goals over 157 games and was as courageous as they came.

It's really sad his 2007 injury stopped him in his tracks.

His 2007 season averages: 13 possessions @ 50% contested, 4.39 marks @ 1 contested, 2 goals, 2.39 tackles a game.

We'd be gizzing if Garner or Turner produced those stats over a season now let alone Zurhaar.

That concussion/injury really stuffed him around, he was never the same.

Very good player.

His 7-4 dismantling of Hawthorn in Launceston is a favorite memory.

Inconsistent, but that goes with playing contemporary HFF.

By the time we've rotated Clarke and Ahern through there along with LDU's obligatory year, he should be right to tackle those deficiencies in say, oh, his 6th season (or even the 5th if things are tracking ahead of the 10 year development arc). Then we can unleash his natural game to full effect, devastating the competition.

Couple of other quick recollections of a personal favourite.

2006 - gathers 36 possessions playing loose in defence in an upset win over Geelong. Which of our current small forwards could pull that cameo?

2008 - no flash in the pan, nails another 7 goal game in a win over Richmond. Gun.

Pagan loved him and played him from early on. Unfortunately was one of the quality 2000s crew born in the wrong era who left the game with no silverware.

Contemporary HFF's always get the shit belted out of them by folks that don't have a good understanding of the game.

Look no further than LT.
Was serially underappreciated round these parts.

CJs end is a weird one. He actually got concussed against Essendon in the opening minutes of the season when Thommo jumped into his head.
Came back the next week and kicked 4 in the opening quarter against Richmond onto 7 for the game.
But then after that, he kicked a few here and there but his overall output wasnt the same. I have no doubt the concussion impacted his ability to get to more contests.
In the end by 2009 the game had passed him by and he was done.
CJ is actually doing very well for himself away from the club and is a great bloke. If he was one of those other post retirement losers he could very well have grounds for litigation.

Yep. Traditional HFF is the hardest position to play in the modern game. With the increased importance placed on running half backs with good skill, it's no surprise to see a lot of coaches shift towards giving HFF's important defensive roles, rather than that traditional role.

Or, at least, if you play in that position these days you have to know how to defend.

This guy is a gem. Kicked 3 in the intraclub at the beginning of last year, in his first competitive hitout. I noticed, and I think many others did too. Saw his double don't argue against Richmond for Werribee last year. Has virually no fear of trying something in a contest. Looking forward to his progression this year as much as anyone.

Has something special this lad.

Not any run of the mill player can score THAT goal against *. Expect him to play 10-15 games this season.
