With Maori and PI at risk youth, workers would see it all the time, if a kid looked like making a future for himself family and friends would actively sabotage them and drag them back into that lifestyle. Talking to people working in Aboriginal development programs they say they see the same thing all the time and often themselves the target of such abuse.

That's absolutely pharked.

Thing is the support network from afl clubs these days are huge , players have mental welfare, drug counsellors , clubs do alot to help young kids
All the resources are there for them , im sure we'll
Do our very best to help stack with his personal
Stuff but at the end of the day its all up to him.

I love us giving this kid a chance however trying to think has any of these indigenous kids who have had issues turned things around? Seems to be so many cases where clubs have come in to help them however never seems to work out. Happy to be proven wrong and all for giving him a go.

Buddy has some issues doesn’t he?

That's absolutely pharked.

Plenty of jealously and resentment and all sorts of shit comes up when a close friend or family member moves on from you and your lifestyle. Remember it was Yarrans cousin who gave him the meth.

Plenty of Pacific Island and Indigenous footballers all suffer plenty of problems with family, friends and church with their hand out all the time too.

That’s what I think. He will be all good until he goes home for a holiday and then it could go to shit pretty quick.

In NZ when talking about problems with youth crime cycles and ingrained poverty one thing came up a lot. They called it the lobster trap, in that when lobsters get caught in a trap and one looks like finding a way out the others will pull them back in.

This is a very sad story that is all too common .
My wife works in a kindergarten that has a young indigenous girl come in and give demonstrations on indigenous culture ,and she was saying her family had disowned her because she was living a "White Man's"life .[emoji53]

I really don't see how this is within the new rules

The way I read the rules he would have to go back to the state league and try again in the draft next year and only after that would he be eligible to be picked up this way

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-11-18/analysis-how-the-new-rookie-rule-will-change-football

However, what these rules still prevent is a player who was overlooked in the previous year's drafts, but has never been on an AFL list, signing for a club without nominating for the draft again.

Yeah...
If you lay out the Liam Jurrah story you wouldn’t believe it if you didn’t know it was the truth.

Sterge, I believe this article gives a bit more clarity: http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-10-04/afl-brings-in-midseason-rookie-draft-for-2019-

My understanding is the 2018 NAB AFL national draft has now concluded and therefore anyone who nominated for that draft falls into the first eligibility criteria. Hopefully it all works out the way the club are hoping for and I hope young Sydney Stack is able to get the opportunity to build his life and create his dream.

How the rookie-list replacements will work
Pre-season list changes (Dec 1, 2018 to Mar 15, 2019)

  • Clubs that have a rookie list spot available can now utilise it by signing a player during this period.
  • To be eligible, players must have previously nominated for the NAB AFL National Draft or previously been on the list of an AFL club.
  • If a club suffers an injury or retirement, a list spot can be created by placing a player on an inactive list, and they can now be replaced by a rookie player.
  • Clubs must have the available salary cap for that player as per the current AFL rules
Mid-season rookie draft (date to be confirmed)

  • Should AFL clubs have a list spot available or one is created through a player being placed on the inactive list, they will be able to add a player to their rookie list and select players based on reverse ladder order at a mid-season date to be specified.
  • To be eligible, players must re-nominate for the mid-season rookie draft.
  • Clubs have first rights to re-contract their drafted player or he becomes a delisted free agent.

the ruling is that they have previously nominated for the draft, what part of that fails the test for signing from DEC 1st to Mar 16th. you've completely misinterpreted that from this December he must have nominated years ago ,,,not correct and papers have been lodged , player expected to be at training Monday

The AFL loves a good feel good story as much as the fans. The AFL will do all they can to assist
