Takes a long time to get Stack fit

The kid is not a very eager trainer
Is he contracted for next year? Really has been drop to mediocrity for him. Showed a lot when he first came into the team, then injured, seemed after that to be off the pace when he came back. Then last year no doubt frustrated and enjoying the life of an AFL player at the same time.

Crossroads for mind with him. With the draft picks we have coming in next year, if he is not smashing it on the track now, and one of the 'brothers' doesn't pull him aside soon and tell him to apply himself, he could find himself spiralling downward and another wasted super talent. Those first few games he played, we all thought we had what Bolton has now turned into.

The last games I saw him play he was ordinary, but perhaps he has finally matured. I hope he has changed things around and gets another go this year and plays like a man possessed (again).

You'd have to say Covid has played a pretty big role in Stack's development or lack there of. Judging players unless you are on the inside as in coaches team-mates is difficult. With his talent he will get the opportunity to redeem and was named in the starting midfield before the latest Covid outbreak. From my limited watching of the VFL this year, he was very sharp in the game I saw, nothing like the games he played last year (in the AFL granted).

From the VFL games I watched this year he seems to be banished to the forward line playing an Aarts type role. When he does get his hands on it he definitely looks a class above that level. Hopefully he can spend some time in the middle once the comp resumes.

Stack was never going to be realistically ready for AFL before mid season once his pre season got destroyed. All the reports I have read from the coaches indicate he is meeting reasonable expectations and they were planning to give him more and more time around the ball as his fitness improved.

He is a super player talent wise and once fully fit it is just a matter of getting his instinctive style of play to fit into the team’s system.

For some perspective, Stack has only just turned 21, and is the 8th youngest player on our list. He has played 26 AFL games, the 7 players younger than him have played 26 combined and Jack Ross accounts for 20 of those(further perspective on Ross.) Stack is a year and 4 months younger than Bolton. There are 11 players under 24 on our list who are older than Stack. Only four of those, Baker(54 games) Graham(67 games) Bolton(57 games) and Balta(42 games) have played more AFL games than Stack. Bolton and Balta are absolute guns of their age group. Graham has already fielded offers over $600k x 4 years from reports I have read. And Baker is more than two years older than Stack and is a really good player as well. Collier-Dawkins, Miller, Coleman-Jones, Naish, Garthwaite, and Egg-Smith are all older than Stack and have had less impact so far. Chol is over 3 years older and has played 3 less AFL matches.

Stack has played exactly the same amount of games Bolton had played when he was Stack’s age.

For mine, Stack remains one of our brightest young prospects, so long as he stays focussed on playing his best footy. I would be surprised if he doesn’t have some sort of run of hot form this season, even if it is in the VFL.

I believe he was being groomed for forward roll.....Aarts has shown what he can do and what we have been missing.
also that’s why we also got our mid year recruit........a fit stack ans a stack in good spirits is a class above most.
what a tonic he would be later this year.

His best footy has been across hb but can be exposed defensively so reckon it’s a fair call to develop him as a forward/mid.
Just hope this little hiccup with Covid doesn’t derail him. He was building nicely in the VFL leading up to its cancellation

His talent and class is undoubted and was never in doubt in his draft year also but his work ethic and application was the issue
He is being played foward with small midfield stints is due to fitness level's which due to late start and also partly due to Stack not being a "natural trainer"

We all want to see him in the team asap but i think he is still 4-5 weeks away from what's being reported in the vfl assessments

In a strange way, the break in the VFL could help him have a mini preseason and get fitness levels up faster. Yes, he loses "match fitness" but offsetting that is that there is less risk of sustaining an injury that would set him back in his preparations.

Exposed defensively? Reckon that was one of his strengths. Ran out of legs so went forward would be my reading of it, but agree was building nicely and named in the middle for the VFL until cancellation.
