I think Stack wants to stay but feels insulted about the contract we have offered him. Whispers suggest that it is full of conditions and triggers in an effort to motivate him to prepare and perform at his best.

I can see why the club has created such stipulations and requirements and I can see why Sydney feels like the club is being too harsh and undervaluing him. I also think that he knows he can be is own worst enemy and may not have the discipline he needs to get the best out of himself so he doesn't disappoint the club, his teammates and, most importantly, himself. I genuinely think that he is frightened that he won't be able to hold it together long enough to be the player he believes he can become and that terrifies him more than playing the victim card and blaming the world around him if he does fail.

Stack has such an upside. He could easily be as consistent and as damaging as Bolton. If he signs and commits to the team and himself, next year I can see him truly announcing himself as a star of the competition.

That is a hell of a character profile from a person you have never met.

If it's true norfs offered 3 years hard to knock that back.

Would be a blow
I would think that if his one year offer is what is actually on the table, it would be followed with the proviso that there would be a longer term much better contract at the end of it. Enjoy your footy knowing that if all goes well you will be in a good place at the end of it. I would take that over a 3 year deal at North.

99% sure it’s all been signed for a while just not announced
A lot of the time players have contracts all dusted up but hasn’t officially been announced

Cannot lose this guy. If Peos is still his manager he would have done the right thing and shopped him around but then said your growth at Richmond is where it’s at. Despite your shit neck tattoo

If there was any doubt about stack signing this contract then RFC would not have delisted Biggy & Cumberland until we knew what was happening

Also his manager Peos would not be advising him to sign with Norf after all the RFC have done for SS as he would know the conditions placed on this contract is to actually make SS a better person and player to take his football to the next level.

Why thank you! :grinv1:

Balmy mentioned he may have certain incentives added to his contract when he was asked about this early in the year. You're right though, I've never met Sydney other than for a brief, impersonal chat. He might take such a contract as a challenge and not be concerned at the financial risks or triggers at all. I hope and expect he will.

Given his past though, and the interviews he had when he was first drafted where he said he was shocked by missing out and used the opportunity given by the Tigers as motivation, I think the profile is a definite possibility. The club is also quoted in saying, that they needed Stack to prove his commitment and consistency to his training, before they were willing to give him his first game.

Before he had been drafted, he had arrived at representative games hungover and with fresh injures from a fight. The leadership group of the team decided to exclude him from playing as a result. Safe to say, he was no choirboy before we picked him up and his overwhelming confidence and unwillingness to put in the hardyards was why every other club avoided drafting him.

Sydney has come a long way since then but Kebab-gate was a hiccup that set him back and damaged the trust he had built. He then broke the rules again when he returned to WA and was incarcerated as a result. The club needs to manage these brain hiccups carefully and keep him on a tight leash. This is what the contract is all about. How Stack responds to it is a great unknown. I think he's matured and, like Dusty before him, needs the strong structure of the club to get the best out of himself. I think, with a clear set of rules locking him in and the support of the club, he'll realize his potential this year and burst upon the scene.

Given all of that, I don't think my suggestions are too hard to conclude...from a person a haven't met of course :embarrassedv1::tongueoutv1:

He just bought a new house. Is staying. Relax
That's not a sign of staying at the club though, being offered a 3 year deal on more money could actually make him more secure than what we've offered.

I don't like it he's still unsigned at this point.
