Yeah he was decent in the Dogs game from memory when we were sans Dusty. I'm optimistic he can be handy for us with a full side in. But I really want a top 5 draftee.

Yes, I guess if we factor in the unlikely multiple weeks missed by Cotchin and Prestia, it means there are two starting mid possies available, and then the rotators step in 1st. So Graham, Lambert and Bolton definitely slot in, Shedda could too.
But we want to see Ross and RCD stepping up and I think they could have competition from Bakes and Stack as mentioned.
I think most are not saying we don't have depth, but the quality of that depth. Baker and Stack I see as being 'quality' finals type mids (with tank question marks), but the others (RCD / Ross / Dow) are not proven (yet).
Nobody is proven at junior level. Jack Graham won the meddle for best player at the champs as an accumulating mid, hasn't repeated that at AFL level (much).
Class is about the only thing that translates to the next level as a rule.

Completely agree. Stack can be a difference maker. And hopefully his bad luck and poor decisions can be behind him. If he trains hard and takes his chances I reckon he can be a B+ to A grade mid. It could be an interesting year 2022, if our younger guys take step forward.

I would prefer if Stacky plays as a forward and rotates into midfield. He is much more damaging than George and Aarts but will needs the fitness base to play the small forward role.
There is not one part of Stack's game that is B+. The most talented player on out list bar Martin. Whether his career ever matches is talent is the same as any player, but there is no reason not to be optimistic. Reckon he will transition to a gun mid quicker than most think.
Working my way through the 2020 season on Fri & Sat nights, Stack has been moved forward after a few games down back. He dominated that stretch of games with freakish goals himself and assists with sublime skill and decision making. Makes George and Aarts look like D graders.
Agree... 70% forward, 30 as a mid 2022.
I would like to see him play as a wingman in 2022 with stints in the middle. When Cotch and Edwards go then he can replace them in the middle.
I would like to see Edwards, Cotchin and Bolton play mid/forwards next season. Martin more full time mid as we need an A+ player in there.
Our weakest positions are out wings. Mac and Pickett go okay, but Stack to me is the player you want delivering the ball into the forward line. He is a 70m player when he gets the ball due to his run and carry and great kick. A player like Short is also a 70m player but he boofs it long, Stack holds on to it until a good option comes up. Our biggest problem all year to me was the link and run between the arc's.
If he can't run a wing week after week then rest him forward for games, as you say 70-30, but he is such a gun attacking player seems a waste a bit to not play him up the ground.

The reason I said B+ was that Stack is often his own worst enemy. But his talent, grunt and athleticism is A grade.
If he reaches his ceiling he will be an inside/outside mid, capable of playing in any part of the ground. Far more versatile than Shai, but I still reckon Shai has more Oh My God!! talent. But overall Stack can be better rounded and has more weapons
Bolton's agility and spring is through the roof but Stack has every facet of footy and a massive footy IQ. Reckon they are pretty even in the air, Bolton will take more mark of the seasons for sure. Contrasting styles a bit but blessed to have exciting talents like that. And more importantly they seem pretty loyal Tigers, imagine seeing them in an Essendon or Collingwood jumper. Sorry to ruin your day.

If Stacky plays like he did in the last quarter against the Hawks, it will make the forward line much more potent.

Yes, wing is a position issue. Funny how I have rerated Ellis watching the games!!
If the concern on Stack is the tank, then wing will be difficult. That's why Macca gets a game even with his often diabolical disposal - runs all game and can beast mode opponents.
Caddy, and Pickett as you said, haven't worked that well. I think they'll be looking to train someone else over the summer for the wing, but not sure who that could be.
I know Cotchin often gets talked up as a forward, but I am not so sure. I'd go far as to say he is a poor set shot, both accuracy and distance - passes when over 40m out. For me, he's a mid on reduced minutes - impact using his trademark see-ball-get-balll.
But back to Stack, I'd prefer him forward/ mid rather than a wing.

He didn't dominate that stretch of games, he dominated one game and then was quiet for the others he played forward.

We don't know Stack's aerobic fitness ability due to never having a proper preseason. He is a natural runner and covers the ground like everything else he does so easily. I am sure he could run out games, perhaps not for a full season that might get on top of him. Reckon he would be a great mid as well.
Because Cotchin is an average set shot he can't be a forward. I give you one Mr Richardson. Besides that, his aggression and ability to win the ball would be his main asset. He could be a more Dusty style forward as he is good in the air and on the ground. One out he would be difficult. You would not like to line up on Cotchin as a backman because he would hit harder than any forward playing the game. I think it is worth a shot because our midfield needs to see some new faces, and our small forwards have been ordinary to say the least for a few years.
Ok. I like the opposing viewpoint as it forces me to go and watch the games again!!
But for reference, I am talking about the r 12,13,14 rounds vs Suns (15 possies, 4 goals), Aints (19, 1.1) and GWS (18, 1.1).
So maybe not dominated, but I certainly wouldn't say 'quiet'. And as I said, he had a number of quality assists not showing in those stats. We know the impact Cyril had with minimal stats. If it's between George, Rioli, Aarts and any other small forward on our list, I'm taking Stack as first magnet on the board.

Fair points on both Stack and Cotchin. With Cotchin, especially his aggression around the ball I agree. Not sure so much in the air - one on one with a small forward I assume you are referring to. Would like to see some clips highlighting that. I just can't seem to ever remember him impacting down forward. Pushing in sure! Perhaps that is because he hasn't done much time there.
I don't think he has ever played there.
In the air meaning that he would at least go for it and halve the contest. Would not likely watch an intercept player take a mark without putting heat on him, a bit like Vlastuin does down the other end.
Basically I think it is time to phase out the 'role' players and put class players in their places, hence Edwards, Bolton, Cotch, Martin, Lambert, proper senior footballers who can play multiple roles.
There are dozens of good small forwards in the league, and we have not one.

Almost my favourite Stack highlight amongst a fair selection already to choose from.
I remember it clearly too when it happened. I thought right then.. he is 100% committed and should be forward from now. But if he has a huge preseason, perhaps mid ... maybe he starts doing that all over the ground... with all his other 'tricks'.
