Sydney Stack impressing at Richmond training but is yet to be signed as a rookie

Exciting West Australian teen Sydney Stack is already winning plaudits for his Richmond training form as he seeks to impress coach Damien Hardwick.

Hardwick is not only assessing the form of the livewire indigenous teen but giving him room and board after Daniel Rioli moved into the Fevola house to live with his girlfriend.

Stack has until March 15 to prove his professionalism and win a rookie spot after being the most talented player overlooked in the national and rookie drafts.

Richmond assistant coach Justin Leppitsch said on Friday the Tigers had already been impressed with his football acumen in his time at the club.

“All I have seen is his talents and his competitive nature and the reason why he was All-Australian,” Leppitsch said.

“Those things are already evident on the training track. He is living with Dimma, so maybe give him a call but he seems good.

“It has only been a week so it’s very hard to judge and time will tell. But as a footballer he looks very much an accomplished young player, so if that’s the reason he stays on the list he is going about it the right way. The other stuff is for our management to take care of.”

Stack said in the lead-in to the draft that he saw football as an escape after a turbulent childhood growing up around violence.

“I just really find my peace there, on the footy field,” he said.

Thats enough for me sign him up god dammit.

It's great news, but I think we can be patient for a month or two. I want to see consistent training from the young man and a genuine desire to be at the RFC. With our list etc we can afford it.

Personally I think he will work out, but I'll back the club and the way it's going about it. Dimma & the club are showing that he is being seriously considered with the investment made thus far, so perhaps we can wait a little bit?? ;) I am excited about Sydney though...

Sounds good for young Syd. Love him to make it.

Just noticed Carlton have 2 guys training with them now on the same scheme. Seem to have gone 'look at the Tigers. That's a good idea. Who is next best? Let's try them out.'

Nice that we got a jump on the comp with this. Hope ti works out

It is still very early days but he seems to be integrating well with the young boys and looks to be training hard from reports, The test will come when he heads back to WA and comes back to when the grind really starts.

Hoping he really takes it and makes the most of this chance he has been presented, Clearly the kid has talent and can play
fingers crossed he spends his few weeks in perth over the Xmas period working hard and comes back in better condition than when he leaves
This is what the coaches will be looking at when making the call

The big test will be the next few weeks with the Christmas break

If he puts his head down and completes the fitness programs the club has put in front of him without being in a club environment and with the distractions of home life he will be in yellow and black next year if not... well it was worth a crack

Yep he comes through this period, gets around Dimma and stays away from his daughter we have absolutely brained this.

Garlett trained well though for a few months, so did Ricky Petterd to balance the argument.

You can’t put in what god* left out and he got plenty.

*God denotes the general idea of a higher being, not an actual ideology, protocol or sect ;)

Thinking the clubs fitness dept will give him a program to do over the break and will have the gps data to see if he has achieved the required work load

Hope he doesnt get somebody els to carry the gps and train :p

Given that he wanted to be in VIC to get away from home & that he lives with Dimma, i'd say he may stay here (could be wrong), going home may not be the best idea.

On the Clubs Podcast Richo once told the story about a team mate, came back with his GPS data through the roof but his skin folds were off the scale & the Club couldn't figure it out, in the end he confessed that he'd put the GPS in his car & drove around the block a few times...

I thought that too that he’d be better placed staying in Melbourne over the break , early mornings dips in the bay , pound the sand dunes and gym during the day , cherry ripe by the time training resumes
