When I read the story in the paper i was so excited i had to create this thread (apologies if its done incorrectly). If anyone else was like me they were avidly wishing we would select this kid with every pick after our first. The way he has made it to an AFL list is extremely endearing IMO. Our club has literally given him the best chance to make it at AFL level. If he doesn't want to commit to professional standards, see ya champ.

Odds of success with this are small. He will try his best but the capacity to consistently turn up and give sufficient effort and focus will be a real challenge for him.
He might do great for a month but then he's back home for Xmas and will need to find his own discipline.
Having said that, I love that we're giving it a go. Stack gets an opportinity to transcend the difficulties of his upbringing and we get a free swing at a great talent.
Good luck kid - hope you can find your way to making the most of this chance.

Sydney Stack will be ‘worth the effort’ for Richmond, says Luke English

Richmond recruit Luke English has urged his new club to go all-out for Sydney Stack. The pair played under-age football together for Perth and WA, and they were among the four Sandgropers named in this year’s under-18 All-Australian team. But while English was picked up by the Tigers with pick 62 in last week’s national draft, Stack was one of the most prominent names overlooked.

The indigenous livewire is set to be granted a lifeline by Richmond when they offer him the chance to train with the club over summer with an eye to joining the rookie list. Stack had disciplinary issues this year, but shone on the field and made his senior debut for Perth late in the season.

“He’s a ripping footballer, an All-Australian, and he’s really handy around the club,” English said at Punt Road yesterday. “I think he would really thrive in an environment like this. It’s such a supportive environment, so I think that would be really good for him. “He’s a real hard player and you can back him in to do the one-percenters and shepherd for you. He’s a team player and gets the contested footy.”

Richmond are expected to lodge official paperwork for Stack with the AFL before Saturday’s deadline. He could then join them for training during the pre-season supplemental selection period from next week until March 15.

He can still be offered a spot on the Tigers’ rookie list under rules introduced this year.

English arrived in Melbourne this week and was greeted at Richmond by familiar faces Ben Miller and Shai Bolton, who he played against in WAFL under-age competition. Subiaco products Miller and Liam Baker have been designated as English’s “buddies” in Richmond’s mentoring program.
