Agreed... Seems the only thing that can stop him from being a star is him getting cocky and stopping putting in the effort needed.

Now we are getting a better understanding of his personality, with his confidence in himelf, I wonder if he was a bit too laid back about the draft just expecting it to happen with what he he achieved at u18 level. Then not getting drafted at all, he was WTF!!

Fair assessment. Sydney himself says he was a little embarrased as he had family around watching the draft which means he probably expected to get drafted and may have gotten ahead of himself a little. Being overlooked may have been the catalyst for him realising talent only gets you so far and sacrifices need to be made to play at the top level. Obviously getting out of a toxic environment for him was a big one. Most of his wayward 'misadventures' were due to external pressures around him, but at the same time, he did make the conscious decision to go along with it (Skip work, miss a training session etc.) I think being overlooked showed him he needed to be more professional and the best thing the club did was lodge him with Dimma. Can't do much wrong in a new city when you are staying with the man who decides once and for all if you will get to do what you live and breathe for.

Heard through a few people too that a few clubs passed on him, and were wanting to see how he responded in the WAFL this year to see if it gave him the drive to clean up his professionalism and give him the drive and if it did, were going to take him in this years draft. Obviously didn't happen as we pounced and I am so glad we did. I genuinely feel Stack could be the best player to come from this draft.

Really hope that behind the scenes the club is ensuring that he keeps himself focused on what has got him here and not letting him get too caught up in the hype. It's great to have the kid believe in himself, but I don't want to see him become a flash in the pan who flames out quickly.

I understand that nobody likes condescending, overly privileged assholes but there's a few in this thread who have a real chip on their shoulders about not going to private schools lol As a normal person who attended public for primary and then parents (both teachers) sacrificed everything to send me to private for secondary it's not at all what a lot of you think it is. Literally the only difference I saw (because it was a boys school probably) was everyone was just mad for sport. About 1/2 the students were from parents who were humble hard working immigrants (Indian, Sri Lankan, Chinese etc). To those who didn't attend it ain't what you think it is.

After reading all the articles and listening to Dimma in particular I think it could have been the opposite. Dimmas comparison with the cheeky, joking Riolli living with him was Sydney was intense, always on guard, and didn't trust many people.

Pretty certain I've also heard Dimma say the complete opposite in one post-match. Dan being the reserved character and Syd fitting right in. Baffling.

This was on after the Dee's game. It was also where he mentioned Sydney taking the salami and cheese plate out the back of the family pool guarding it whilst he ate it. Said he has loosened up heaps in the team environment. Rioli is nowhere near quiet, he was known as outgoing when at St Pats Ballarat. You can be reserved but in an environment where you are comfortable be outgoing.

You misunderstood or perhaps I used the wrong term. By laidback, I meant he took for granted he was going to get drafted during that u18 year and did as he liked.
