I still think Stack's best spot is the wing, such a great transition footballer, glides over the turf and great disposal. Playing half-back he knows the defensive structures, but his creativity transitioning to back to forward is where he could really shine for us. Plenty of guns play wing, McCluggage, Hill boys, Smith, Duncan, Whitfield, McCluggage.

Really needs a big preseason which he should get this year.
McCluggage is that good you had to mention him twice🤣🤣🤣

Nope, better in defence .

He looks so much better than other options and is far more confident and direct in his approach
But if he was playing between the arcs mire there would be more passes like the one to Bolton that dropped in the hole 20 mtr out.

We need more goals from set shots.

Mansell, Short , Rioli, Vlastuin and possibly some more small back options. Of course Stack looks good in defence, when he is up and going he looks good anywhere. Give him a full preseason so he is fully fit and he would be a great wingman, or possibly better, a great midfielder. He has only scratched the surface of how good he could be.

He can still do that from defence.

We shouldn't move Stack to make room for lesser types

We are trying to win premierships not act like a charity

Nope, Stack is a way better defender than most of the others in defence and we need to have better options at wing

We are trying to win premierships not run Salvation Army

We have too many defenders trying to make up numbers like having too many small forwards

Dont agree
Mansell and Rioli are already offering positive options, we still have Short.
Houli will hopefully get a game or two this year and we have
Balta, Broad, Vlaustin to come in.

Mansell is a rookie and Rioli a hybrid(more small forward than anything).

Putting them ahead of Stack in defence is embarrassing.

Houli is nearly at the end.

Short is already in defence

What you are suggesting creates list management problems like when others are saying trade CCJ or Chol. We do not have 50 on a list

Stack does not have the fitness level nor will he ever have it to be able to play a whole game on a wing. HB is his spot.

I guess the charity reference is that Stack is better than Mansell and Rioli. Yes he is but it is hardly charity, they both played good football last weekend.

My main point is a gun midfielder is more important than a gun half back. Stack into our midfield could be a bit like Walsh at Carlton. Stack was an AA midfielder in the 2018 Nationals.

Yeah, everyone starts without experience.
I think we need to aim for 14-15 goals we need more weapons fwd of centre to create opportunity

For starters Brisbane have not made a GF yet.

Lets not get carried away. Hipwood was not playing, the have been touched up in finals before. There up there but they are a rung below the Bulldogs, Geelong and possibly Melbourne at the moment at least. They have a few injuries and where injury free before and had great fixture runs plus played in QLD a lot

The point is why compromise Stack and our team by moving him onto a wing? Why disrespect the wing role and the midfield?

Stack is a gun defender especially when on, why try and stuff that up by playing weaker players there when we are aiming for premierships and trying to get better as a team?

Stack is not Walsh, hr does not have the running power nor the physical presence in the contest, I doubt he has the drive either

Our problems are not forward, they are in the midfield and defence. Stack helps us more in defence than midfield.

Mansell and Rioli are yet to prove themselves as defenders. The rules have changed. Even Baker is yet to prove himself as a defender with the new rules for a team in contention

How do you know that, on the back of is first season as an 18 year old who came to Richmond with no preseason.
Or on his lack of training due to covid last year.
Or getting to Richmond after the season had started this year and running out the game well after almost no fitness 6 weeks ago.

Stack made the U18 AA as a midfielder and he only played 3 games that is how good he was and he wasn't even in the system proper at that stage.

I would suggest U18 in WA is a little looser and less accountable than AFL especially in finals.

The bottom line is Stack plays like a naturally attacking defender who can actually defend so why mess with that when plenty of others can't?? Defence has become a bit of a joke due to set-ups with the likes of Caleb Daniel playing down there and he we have Stack who actually knows what he is doing!!

Do you know why the Bulldogs still might lose the premiership even with their gun midfield and forwards with JAH starting to bloom?? Their backline is shit

Stack could be a AA defender and going against the grain and sticking him in the midfield is like doing hari kari

Not AA in WA, but in the National Under 18 Carnival. Bailey Smith, Sam Walsh and Jack Lukosius were the other mids in that group, and they have transitioned pretty well.

As I said, Stack could be anything anywhere, we won't know how good a mid he will be until he plays there. Would like to see that next year, our midfield isn't getting any younger.

Wow, Lukosius could be anything. He could be the best forward playing in a backine and they moved Neitz in Melbourne years ago and Neitz was a gun CHB.

Bailey Smith is a lot more powerful player and budding superstar and Walsh far more endurance.

You are comparing Smith and Walsh to a Jack Martin its laughable. Stack cannot be anything anywhere. For starters Bolton can outleap Stack with agility in the forward line. Stack is not as agile as Bolton, he runs relative straightlines, but Stack is tougher than Bolton and possible better with decisions. Stack is a possible AA defender, let him be and clouding the issue is stupid.

Mansell might not even make it. Baker might not last another two years with the new rules. Making up the numbers in a AFL defence is not that special these days when they do not play one on one as much. Stack can play one on one. You can't win premierships by compromising on ability and relying on system just like Clarkson could not win premierships without Hodge and others to do the heavy lifting

Moving Stack from a gun defender to a poor mans Walsh in the midfield is just working against the grain. Just because AFL play dime a dozen players in the backline does not mean Stack should be cheapened if he plays back especially if we are relying on his brillance to win premierships for us in defence like a Wanganeen in the past to extract X-factor to improve our contested work.

JUH in a few years might push Naughton back to defence because he a more natural better forward. Watch this space.

You can play system all you like but it helps when you have an athletic freak like Balta winning one on ones in the contest despite his eyes to get you over the line even if he has great support with others, so individual ability in the backline is important to. Just look at the importance Rance was to us against the best forward lines

Who mentioned Jack Martin? I compared Stack to Smith, Walsh and Lukosius (should not be there as he was CHF, my mistake), fellow AA midfielders. I think Stack is the most talented pure footballer at Richmond, and potentially the equal of those Smith and Walsh, why not use where he will be most use. He can always go back to the HB if he can't adapt, as you say, plenty of great players have been backmen.

Because all the players you named are aerobic beasts and always have been. Stack’s running capacity isn’t close the them (in u18 or AFL). He could maybe play in the middle for spits and spurts (in future years) but not out on a wing.

Its about body type as well which creates presence. At that level is about the whole package which creates advantages in certain matchups and scenarios. How do you think DeGoey and Stringer have been effective when going in the guts??

Maurice Rioli was partially a gun because he was solid and a boxer.

How do you think Dusty does don't argues??

Stack in the backline can play on the small forwards defending and still use his brillance

Edwards and Bolton go okay in the guts, opposite builds to DeGoey and Stringer. Anybody can play in the middle if they are good enough, Walsh or Dusty.
Reckon we are shorter on going forward for quality mids than we are backs.

Stack is going to be pretty strong and hits as hard as anyone, and can probably handle himself as well.

I really don't think we know what Stack is capable of yet, aerobically or otherwise. Smith and Walsh were freaks because they trained themselves into the ground as juniors. Stack was couch surfing at the same time and has had a rough hand since, self inflicted or not. But Stack covers the ground so easily and with a good preseason who knows what his running capacity would be like, he hasn't had one to date, anything like one, so it's hard to make judgement.

Okay does not win premierships especially when Rance retires and we have other injuries, not to mention the rules changing.

How many are like Bolton? He is a freak, an anomaly from trend. Bolton is a categorical freak of nature on the football field, sorry he is in the way he moves, evades and touches the ball.

Name one player like Bolton in the last 60 years?? Wanganeen maybe, the rubber man, and he played in a different position
