Baker is a forward who can play in the middle. For mine Baker is not a back. He just plays back out of desperation and his desperation allows him to get away with it from a defensive point of view to a degree until a match creates a liability. The goal from 50 confirms to me he is a forward.

Baker , if people want to get real is a forward he can contribute in the middle for ground ball etc..
and play back, he is a still a good player where ever he plays, but yes can play anywhere.

Our backline is pretty stacked atm can’t really see him pushing any of the established boys out and guys like Brown will be pushing for a spot next year as well
We don't have much depth in the way of running defenders at the moment going around in the twos. Martyn isn't good enough, Brown isn't ready and Mansell is more lockdown.

I'd keep Baker as a mid-forward, and swap Stack for Hugo. I like Hugo, but Stack is much more damaging with his ball use. I think Hugo will eventually play wing for us if he can tidy up his skills.

Was working well up the ground yesterday chasing and harrassing and then running back hard to position himself at Mate's feet. Couldn't see a problem with his work rate at all.

I still think his best position is off half back. Everything we're seeing Rioli do now Stack is just as capable of imo.
I agree that Stack looks better rebounding, but he gets exposed when we play him there by other teams dragging him deep. He can't play the lockdown role to the same extent Daniel can and I'm not sure on the basis of current form he offers as much line breaking back there.

There's also a log jam of other players who I would argue are better suited to playing across half back (Ralphsmith, Rioli, Baker, Short, Broad, Vlastuin) with blokes like Banks providing more depth. Not sure Stack makes it as a half back with us.

I've seen enough from his games forward that he could be extremely dangerous there but to my mind his work rate is the real issue. He doesn't bring the pressure that someone like MRJ does or even Castanga for that matter (despite my personal preference for him to play over him).

Baker is a forward, Banks looks more like a inside mid, Short is a mid/forward who can distribute from back, Rioli shaping as possible wing that drifts back, Ralphsmith a utility so looks like we are crying out for a small defender and to say he cannot lock down is frankly BS

Brown also easily could end up a wing

He can't lock down. Can you name a single scalp he took while playing down back in the last three years? I certainly cant. I'd even go as far as to say Mansell shows more as a lockdown defender and I certainly wouldn't be promoting him to best 22 anytime soon.

Don't agree with your characterisation of the positions of any of the other players. Banks in particular hasn't gone near being an inside mid at VFL level.

When he played in the ones he was great defensively a few years back. Who did he bump when he played in the ones last?

How poor was Rioli locking down Stengle? I get the run off half back kicking the goal but he can do that from a wing drifting back

Stack tortured Daniels (GWS) in his first game. He gave Betts nothing until 1 Betts special. Would easily be on par with Rioli in regard to locking down and has very similar attributes to Rioli all round. Having two class rebounding 50 players would be nice, plus he is as hard as nails. Stack has plenty of defensive attributes. But given he plays forward it is hard to remember what they are.

They have taken the rising star runner up half back who showed he could be anything, into a reserve grade small forward, not a bad effort in 3/4 of a season. He is not without some blame, but I think enough is enough. Let him enjoy his footy and see what he can do.

Any news on the injury? He looked very groggy hopefully he’s on

Posted himself Yesterday icing his cheekbone in the epworth yesterday during the AFL game, had some swelling and bruising

Assuming he went in for scans so guess we’ll have to wait for the injury report

I cannot see what hit him. The fist for the ball seemed to miss, maybe Jedda's knee but it looked like nothing. Just about sums up his year.
Watched live just the once, when he slipped and went down I think he hit Jetta's knee.
Looked so inocuos. Feel for him all the same

Hate to say it but Stack is the perfect player for West Coast IMO, would cost them nothing, still young and from Perth. Having him off their half back line at Optus stadium would be dangerous. The only thing they would have to be careful of is his off field behaviour and getting back in trouble with the old crowd.

Free swing if you ask me.

I didn't get to Punt Road yesterday, so I'll trust the opinion of others who saw him play live. Zero tackles is a pretty damning stat.

My $0.02 worth - he cruises through games, tries to do too much when he gets the football and doesn't have the required level of fitness to play AFL. I could level many of the same accusations at RCD.

Effort is non-negotiable for the Richmond footy club. It's why players like Aarts, Castagna and Parker get a game ahead of Stack.

Would you trust him to perform in a final? I don't.

exactly the kind of game he played yesterday... didn't get much of the ball and tried to do too much when he got it. Needs to work harder and forget the ego. Reckon he could be gone end of season
