Steve Morris was super impressed with his game yesterday
Said he’s looking forward to owning the role he’s currently playing for rest of year

I really ****en hope that it’s a direct instruction from Dima and they are preparing him to take over Shedda once he retires

Jack Higgins & Syd have absolutely zero in common personality wise to Riewoldt, Shai or Rance. Rance is a ******* Jehovah ffs.

Bolton is not even extroverted in his personality. He is not outspoken & plays with flair. If you can't see the difference in those personalities then i can't help you. Clearly 2 of these guys played with a youthful enthusiasm that the club was happy to draw on early in their careers, but it appears that after 1 year of it the older players and the coaches got bored with it.

The comparisons with Jack & Syd are actually feasible. Both came on like lightning in a bottle & played with a youthful swagger that the club was more than happy to go feast on. The players treated them both like a brand new puppy that they were going to love forever & ever & ever. But, once the puppy pissed and shat on the floor for the 100th time, the endless love disappeared quick. From all reports, both boys personality was wearing thin around the club, especially Syd in the hub. Jacks childish nature also wore thin. Our ability to allow these types to thrive in our system without having to conform to the standard of others was not great. We got high output from them for a very quick time only. Higgo in reality got back to being that player pretty quickly once he left, even after serious brain surgery

Wtf has his religion got to do with his personality?

StCk deserves a call up…he has been asked to work on the 1%s…doing team things…sacrificing his own game…he’s fine this

Get the feeling we can't win with Stack. We extend him we are rewarding his continued poor efforts in the off-season and he learns nothing. We delist him, there's every chance another club licks their lips and grabs him, it turns out to be the reality check he needed and he kills it for another club.
Or he's been learning his lesson all year by not getting a game.

He's been playing the same amount of games, practice matches etc as everyone else and in full training since November. I think the poor condition excuse has run it's course. They picked him round 7 and 8. Ten weeks later and he still isn't getting picked, that is not fitness.
Interrupted pre-season means you're behind the 8-ball all year.

Stack has worked his arse off on-field this year, and I imagine he's trained well too. It's the time between the end of the season and the start of the pre-season that's the trouble. He's 22 now. People grow up, not all at the same rate. He would have to be dumber than a cross between Jon Ralph and Tom Browne not to know his career is on the line. He's showing his love for the club and desire to stay. He'll get a year with an incentive trigger for another, I reckon.

We knew what we were getting in for with Stack. He's not some private school prefect who's had a golden ride and help every step of the way. We have to see it through.

Stack has about 10% chance to get to 100 games

not looking good for him unfortunately and will be extremely lucky to get another year at Richmond
Well not with Richmond. You reckon his manager is not shopping around already and the club don't know it. A mutual parting you'd reckon, probably why he is confined to the forward pocket in the VFL.

Well on the rookie list, I would say one more year and thats it, its moving day next year for us, you can climb on board or go your separate way, its up to you.

I would say there is a youth focus, things will open up.

Some of the stalwarts will drop off shortly

I think he will leave for opportunity elsewhere. Probably fair enough too.
He hasn't been smashing down the door though....lightly tapping maybe. And rightly so considering how far back his fitness has been and his indiscretions. Starting to show enough at VFL that he deserves a spot.
Hoping he has turned the corner and gets an opportunity now we are into the backend of this season.
We know the talent he has....it's up to him. Sometimes a change of club is best for both sides though. Wonder if he has interest from the WA clubs. If imagine he would as a delisted player. Hope it doesn't come to that.

What has his indiscretions got to do with this year. This old how far behind his fitness excuse has worn thin about 4 months ago when he was selected to play round 8 and 9. If he was that far south fitness wise then, he would not have played AFL 2 months ago. He came back underdone in October. Many injured players are also underdone, some don't start training until after Xmas. He knocked the door down a few weeks ago and was ignored.

The number one reason he is still playing VFL is because he is not a small forward, he is a player that likes to run forward not run around chasing players. He likes to back himself and go for his marks, he is not allowed to do that straight out of the horses mouth today, Morris in his run down of the game. He is a shadow of what he could be and it is pretty obvious in his body language on field the last few weeks. Starting to get targeted because he will retaliate.

We will lose Stack odds on, and it won't be all Stack's doing, which sort of pisses me off because he is A grade off the half back flank, or could be.

can guarantee WA clubs wont go anywhere near him for same reasons they ignored him earlier , his stint in the pen would have only underlined their earlier assessments. possibly another MELB club would entertain him , given our comings and goings may be in our interests to keep him

And what has he done since he came back from WA 18 months ago, nothing but come in underdone. Has he caused trouble, a backward somersault into a rockpool caused quite a commotion. What else. Maybe WA is the best for him, he's get a game at half back at WC no problem. You'd swear he'd beaten up a cabbie or gone to Bali and got on it mid season. Covid was pretty extraordinary time to be 19 years old, and he went out when he shouldn't have, as my sons did but didn't get caught.

Agree. The jail time was BS.

Fair point Bojangles on the HBF call. Seems a bit of theme with the coaching staff at the moment. Baker/ Balta..forward / back. I get the need for flexibility, but...

If he does play seniors, I agree, should be off HBF. Ahead of Rioli..no. Baker...no.

Perhaps Ralphsmith is one Stack could be played ahead of, prefer him on the wing. But Macca/Pickett are locked in there too.

So seems the spot, or even spots, up for grabs is the forwardline. Thus him playing there I guess.

Before he was destined to be a small forward, and before Covid, Stack looked like he was going to be a great half back, better than both Rioli and Baker. There is no reason to believe he could not get back to that level, but after 18 weeks of VFL footy, he has been played a total of half a game there, so we will never know.

I understand why he is being looked at as a small forward, but the season is nearly finished and you'd have to say it has been a waste of time for him.

Thought at the start of the year the wing would be a good fit, but as you say, MacIntosh and Pickett are having great season.

his manager can shop him all he likes, Will take a ballsy club that would take him on now
Even more than in his draft year.

Stack after 4 years at an AFL club specially a club like Richmond where culture and care is taken highly have failed to make him the player he could be
combined with his indiscretions he would be lucky to get a rookie contract for 1 year.

Time running out for SS

Im not sure we can keep him on the rookie list for another year unless we delist and re rookie him

I will be gutted if he goes somewhere else and does a Tyson Stengle and all of a sudden turns into a gun, actually I will be furious.

What exactly has he done that would turn clubs away in the last 14 months he has been back at the club. He came back with less fitness than he should have, not exactly Motlop rolly polly, but under where he should have been.

Since May last year that is it, thanks to the WA legal system and Covid not allowing him back earlier, he got back into the side 2 months later and was our best/second player one game late in the season, as a half back.

The club has played him exclusively forward this entire season and guess what it hasn't worked. Who's fault is that SS I suppose. Clubs would be mad not to plonk him on the rookie list and let him play his natural game across half back, they would have nothing to lose and plenty to gain.

Unless there is some sort of personality conflict which I guess none of us outside the club walls would know about, then he would be itching to leave the way he has been coached and utilised this year.

Forget about highlights, the rising star results from 2019 just to put more perspective on how good he was.

1) Walsh 54
2) Rozee 42
3) Stack 28

9) Baker 3

Bolton 0
who would have thought he would only play 3 or 4 more games since then

He really has not done anything apart from a couple of decent VFL games at a much lower level against the weaker sides like Coburg
thats just it he has not done much and he should be dominating that level every week.

Done Nothing

I have been one of his critics, as I hate to see naturally gifted players not reach their true potential, as a result of not doing the hard yards, and just thinking that it will happen. However, watching him of late in the VFL, he is doing the team things, and being played out of position. He plays his best footy across half back, but may be not given an extended go there because those positions in the one's are taken. Any team crying out for running half back flankers would be mad not to have a crack.
