Richmond is on track to re-contract talented utility Sydney Stack despite a year in which he has played only two AFL games, one of them as the unused sub.
Stack, who broke his cheekbone last month, has made significant gains in his professionalism and while he would have rival suitors the 22-year-old will be at Punt Road next year.

Should be in the seniors this week
Looked amazing in VFL
I’ve been as harsh on stack as anyone at times, (purely out of frustration due to how good he could be) but just seems like something has clicked the last couple of months

Can tell he wants it and it’s making me believe again

See what Steve Morris said about him and his game?
Very good reason to believe again

He’s back to his brutal hungry best that he had in 2019 imo

Na, I haven’t had a chance yet
Is that in Morros post match interview?

I know you’ve been a big fan of him as have I. I still don’t think we’ll see the absolute best until they settle him in the backline.

Agree… he’s so much better behind the ball when he can just run thru and attack

But still great signs with him hitting form as a forward

He seems really good in all areas of the ground

Can play In defence, can play midfield, can play forward

Has the biggest impact off half back,

forwardline line he makes things happen, brings others in to the game

Midfield he’s aggressive, reads the play very well and is awesome user of the ball

If he got himself genuinely fit then he would be best in midfield which is where he played predominately in juniors. Could be a dynamic mid/forward with a big preseason. Probably the player best positioned as far as having the right skill set to for-fill the hole that Edwards will leave once he calls time.

Why has Stack not played more footy, is he lazy is it attitude I just hope someone can sort this out been at club to long to just hang around. This could be another Tyson Stengel
It's a matter of pride and expectations that we have, this thinking that he has to prove himself is rubbish, we all know he can play to an incredible level.

what we should be doing and thinking is how do we get this elite talent up to speed for the benefit of our club?

He is plenty fit enough, his efforts right to the last minute of the last VFL game showed that. But before he has a crack at replacing Edwards as a mid/forward then he might have been given more than a couple of quarters in an entire VFL season to show his worth in there. But no rather play Street and Oakes, VFL plodders in comparison. It has been the strangest year of coaching in regard to a single player I can remember.

I strongly disagree. Stack is not "plenty fit enough". He plays forward, so isn't covering midfield km. He goes missing for whole quarters, often just walking or jogging around on the fat side of the ground when the ball is pinging down the other wing. He is a multi-effort player at times, but he picks and chooses. He rarely follows up his kicks for the handball receive. He is not getting a lot of the football, he is not making a lot of tackles. He is carrying extra weight and looks like he is running through quicksand.

Daniel Rioli is fit. Shai Bolton is fit. Jason Castagna is fit. Sydney Stack is not fit.

I Hope so !!

But Stacks issue's have never been during the season but what he does in the off season and condition he comes back

I hope this off season is different and he comes back and smashes it out of the park
I remember someone by the name of Martin having a few issues until he sorted himself out.

I don't really think it's much of a fair comparison. Pretty different personalities when you look at the more extrovert Stack vs the introvert Martin. There is 100% a case to be said for trying to guide these young men through these years until they reach maturity and understanding that they aren't all going to be a Tom Scully or Matt Rowell. The club has come out and said before they knew what they were getting with Sydney and would work with him. I think with the retirements this year and ideally a really big preseason we will see him take a step forward in 2023. If he was at the club 10 years ago, he wouldn't have lasted but I think we have the structures in place to get the best out of him, it's just whether he is able to make the most of the opportunity at this time. A while back there was a video a couple of years back where I think it was Rioli and Stack talking about how good Bolton is and how he had sort of led the way and taken his game to the next level. But now Rioli has done the same, it's Sydney's time now to take that step forward.
