Player Watch #44 Sydney Stack

The problem is, in a football club one bad apple can spoil the whole bunch, players that come back unfit etc. cant be just handed games or the other players will think if its good enough for him its good enough for me, we gave Stack every chance he could have, he could been delisted after kebabgate but we stuck with him.

Really he has no one too blame but himself, obvious talent just hasn't had the drive to be the best he can be, maybe like Stengle he will get another chance and thrive and like Stengle good luck too him if he turns himself around.

Gee, we have had our fair share of talented players who have wasted their careers….

Troy Taylor
Dan Connors
Chris Yarran
Sydney Stack
all couldve been premiership players if we just got them a house

while Castagna and Aarts were spudding it up and Edwards couldn't get near it for most of the year, but it can't all be bad luck or even a majority of bad luck. (and he would have been more impactful than all three).
There's something that held him back and in the end, I'm more certain than not it was himself.

People saying he only has himself to blame are being callous and need to grow up. This is a sad situation and it is not about blame. The young man has obviously been through a lot of trauma and was coming from a long way back in terms of emotional maturity and mental health. He was an absolute pleasure to watch when up and about and I still hope he finds a way to showcase his ridiculous talent and forge a career. Even if it is not in tigers colours I will keep a keen eye on his output as I rate his ability right up there with almost anyone else I've ever seen.

His story also highlights how important being an athlete is in the AFL now. You can't get by on talent alone you need to be in peak physical shape or you will never achieve consistent performances.

Devo'd.

This looked like being such a great story early on.

His 2019 season will live long in my memory, and I thank him for his amazing contribution. He was genuinely our best player for a while that year - while all our senior players were injured/straggling.

There was always a chance it was gonna end this way, but I like many had my hopes pinned on the best case scenario.

Third in the rising star, coming off a train-on player's pre-season. Then three-fifths of f*** all.

Can't help but think there's been a few dramas go down this year. Otherwise, why sack him now, after sticking by him through the rough early days?

Hope he sticks with the game at the highest level available to him. It's good for him. And if he does, he'll be well and truly in the mix for redrafting at some stage in the next few years.

Genuinely one of the most naturally talented footballers I've seen in a Richmond strip.

He's not the type to sit through 6 hours of speeches at a corporate best and fairest when he could be back in WA visiting family.
Dustin wasn't there also.
put it this way.....every other WA boy was there so if he wanted do give himself every opportunity to be retained. he decided against it. maybe the club stamped his papers and said 'we get it if you don't hang around'.

dustys reason much more understandable.

I have a feeling another club is going to pick up Stack and help him fulfill his potential, similar to what's happened with Stengle.

Sydney Stacks biggest problem was he thought he could be an AFL footballer with no commitment or effort put in and believed natural talent would get him games. In the end the club has made the right decision. Terrible to see a waste of potential talent go to nothing after his magnificent 2019 season , but it comes back on himself to blame bc of the off field events that followed. When I hear on the news there was a car crash in Sydney , I think of [PLAYERCARD]Sydney Stack[/PLAYERCARD].

But didnt you hear it was all the clubs fault
we didnt play him at HB

Ultimately Sydney was responsible for his delisting, if anyone does not perform at their job they no longer have one.

Hmmmm

Counter argument is that it is the employers job to get the best out of the employee, seen plenty of times in professional and sporting life where the employer has failed to do this and people have gone on to be successful elsewhere.

Imagine Eddie betts turning around both Stengle and Stack in the Yellow and Black!

Maybe it was Richmond’s approach that missed the mark.

Name one other player who was played out of position for an entire season with no real result, then delisted. And I am not talking players without the required talent. Stack's talent is A grade.

And I have said for months that his papers were stamped, so I am not solely blaming the club.

I have a feeling clubs will keep right away now and stack will bum around in the wafl if that
Stengle seems a different character.

Dimma was playing outside his wife's bed and he's still coaching, some serious shortcomings there, but I guess Richmond don't do shortcomings as well as they do "vulnerabilities" where the players are concerned.

Still needs to be a point where a decision needs to be made, he’s been on one year deals for the last few seasons and still apparently hasn’t improved on his training and professionalism

Can’t just endlessly pour resources into someone who isn’t ready to grow just in case this time he might have turned it around

He’s had more chances than most, if he wasn’t as talented as he is he probably would of been shown the door after the incidents at the Gold Coast and back in the WA

If you are more interested in making Tick Tock videos and music than your job, no amount of support by an organisation will help you succeed.

As for Stengle he requested a transfer back home to South Australia, he was not delisted by Richmond, he was subsequently delisted by Adelaide.

What a load of poo, Richmond are not the morality police!
