I agree, people still making excuses is weird to me.
He has had 4 years, potential only gets you so far, can’t force somebody to work harder then they’re willing too.
Keeping him around forever sets a bad standard for other young players who are putting in the work.
I just think of all the clubs out there, who is there better culture and resource wise to assist kids like Stack? We can’t argue he was denied opportunities etc.
It took Stengle 3 clubs to pull his head in. I wish Stacky all the best, but, very happy we are now moving on.

MRJ was drafted as a pressure forward and made his name as a 15 year old as one. Different player all together. Cumberland had to wait a long time to get a game but he was more than ready.

Stack had some very good games up forward, far better than Castagna who was promoted the week after probably Stack's best game.

Stack was made to play forward for every minute of an entire season when we all know his best position is down back. Baker, Short, Mansell all played forward for a bit before being put back behind the ball because it suited their style of play. Look what has happened to Daniel Rioli when they put him back, most wanted him gone before that. But not Stack, why?
Please, it has never been a coaching issue or development issue with Sydney.
Who was he ever gonna dislodge out of defence? Short, Baker, Rioli, Grimes, Gibcus or Broad. I don’t think so. And George was prepared to do the work onfield and off field. You can’t even compare those 2 in workrate, discipline and adherence to game style/strategy.

Stack would be an awesome Pickett/Kmac replacement on a wing if he could pull his entire arm out of his arse. Hard, can take a mark. Fitness and discipline the only things holding him back from a long AFL career. Club clearly don't think it's in him to change his ways.

yep! absolute example of wasted talent.

I don't know who me might have replaced, his potential which he never got near to producing was as good as anyones. But it's not just about who he might have replaced but why he wasn't able to run into form further up the ground. It's a pretty normal thing to play a player in their best position when they are not producing the goods in a new one. In the last VFL practice match preseason, both Stack and Pickett were named by watches of the game as our best 2 players playing on the wing. And that was it for him. So whilst not blaming the coaching, it certainly contributed to his form.

But again, he’s miles behind K Mac, Pickett, Ross and Hugo went past him as well. So regardless of what we debate about his best position, he simply wasn’t gpod enough in enough areas to warrant a game.
You know who contributed to his form? Sydney Stack did. You wanna talk about his VFL form late in the season, why is it after he received a facial injury and should of been recovering i get a photo sent to me of him drinking beer and playing the pokies?
I’m glad he’s gone. We have more deserving blokes on the list deserving a game.

How do you know he wasn't good enough when he didn't play in any of those positions throughout the year. He would have torn up half back in the VFL, just as Hugo did. I know he is gone and yes he was his own worst enemy. But with a week to go in the season and you pretty much know your card is marked, having a beer with his mates with a broken cheek bone was probably the best thing for him. (All players are allowed a beer in a week where you have an injury, not like drinking beer is going to hurt his cheekbone.)

He wasn’t drinking beer with his mates. He was drinking piss and playing pokies on his own when he should have been rahabbing. It wasn’t damaged with a week to go. There was 3/4 weeks left in the season and we were still vying for finals at the time.
He wasn’t good enough. He was given opportunities. He didn’t take them/wasn’t good enough to take them. I watched his career like you did. Apart from rucks and keys, nearly every other player in our best 22 can play multiple positions. It’s an expectation/team thing. Sydney wasn’t unique. He was asked to do what is asked of others. Nothing more, nothing less.

pic?

Myself and another poster didn’t put it on Bigfooty because:
A: it would be the wrong thing to do by Stack at that time
B: media scum do peruse our boards. They can get ****ed.
C: Combine the above and is going into finals or trying to make finals, would derail stuff and cause the club a headache.
It’s legit.

Sydney has nobody but himself for his career coming to a premature end. We all agree he had all the tools to be a long term, but he had poor work ethic and there is an old saying that rings so true for Sydney.

Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard

If Sydney had the work ethic of George or Aarts or Miller then he'd be sitting there this preseason with a 2-3 year deal and decent money, but instead he is sitting there wondering where it all went wrong. The fact of the matter is that it all went wrong when he thought his talent would be sufficient enough to have a long career, instead of working his backside off to continue to improve his fitness every year, he constantly showed up unfit and yet people are questioning why the coaches didn't play him further up the ground. I'd suggest it was simply because he wasn't fit enough to play further up the ground. Again that is his fault, not Morris' nor Hardwicks or any other coach at the club.

Why are people looking for any excuse for Sydney Stack delisting, when the obvious one is Sydney did not work hard enough.

Believe me mate there would’ve been numerous people in that pub taking shots of him and a seriously heavily invested RFC supporter/ stakeholder would’ve eventually got hold of it and passed it onto the club.

Yeah, you’d hope so. I really wanted this kid to succeed. But unfortunately, he couldn’t help himself.
