Player Watch #45: Patrick Naish - Delisted

Those that have seen a bit of him, could he play HFF and replace a Butler or Bolton? His form is as good as anyones in the VFL right now.
From what I’ve seen of him , plays quite similar to short, his leg is his weapon , the precision of a surgeons scalpel . Will be a Meters gained player and looks to have the tools to one day step into Houli s shoes , which is a fair step up I might add , by no means easy to reg not have 30p plus at afl level

From the VFL write up

Patrick Naish

28 disposals, two goals, three tackles & five clearances

“Impacted the game on offence, kicked some goals when we really needed them and set-up plenty of others. He was highly influential, he just needs to make sure he keeps being diligent with the defensive side of his game in keeping the pressure on.”

As richoatthedisco and I have mentioned previously it's his defensive accountability that is stopping him from debuting. Gets that right and he'll be in.

"...he just needs to make sure he keeps being diligent with the defensive side of his game in keeping the pressure on.”

That is as heavy a criticism as you will see in Richmond VFL reports. It means "Naish does not work hard enough defensively." Which is obvious to anyone who watches him during games, as opposed to his highlights.

Yeah that's how I read it too.

He is competing with Ellis not Gaff or Whitfield

On face value you’d think he’s doing the defensive thing if he’s got 3 tackles. He must be very poor at tracking back if he’s had that comment after getting 3 tackles in the same game.

Oh, cool. Let's set the bar low then. That's how you win flags and develop players.

Especially after a game where our defensive efforts were shocking

I wonder if it would be ok for Griggy to present him with the No6 guernsey instead of #45 before the game?

Probably need AFL approval after their sub-committee considers whether it is in the best interests of football after having consulted the key industry stakeholders, analysed it through the two new fully resourced Competition Committees to ensure it complies with the AFL's Social Policy and Inclusion Framework, the Gender Action Plan, conforms with the Enhancing Indigenous Strategy and navigates the Gender Diversity Policy at all times, and, having made a recommendation to the AFL Commision via the Football Operations Department General Manager Steve Hocking (Gary to Tiger71) who will meet to consider such a matter to enable the CEO Gillan McLachlan to consult his Ouija Board and decide any ******* thing he likes!
