Player Watch #45: Patrick Naish - Delisted

his first game was not great, just blasted away most his possessions, but I wouldn't be opposed to leaving him in based on the next one which was much better. but with the quality we can possibly bring in if he is left out there shouldn't be any complaints from himself or fans. he'll have his time 2021 onwards

Naish needs to stay in.

I am concerned about some trends in our team and I think Naish can be the solution. With a bit more size and polish than some others, as well as composure, I think Naish can provide a bit more creativity we lack at times.

What encouraged me most is he had the confidence and composure and skill to kick the dribble goal early in his career. I think its a sign he has the necessary class and needs to be afforded the time to develop and enhance his game at the top level with deserved continuity!!

He could be a younger version of a Edwards with possibly a better pin point kick

Reminds me of Cory “silk” Ellis except he can find the pill and uses he’s best asset (kicking) when he has it

So he's like CEllis in every way except those that really matter in playing AFL - actually doing it on the ground.

He is a lot more damaging kick than Gaff and not so hard a runner at this point. Maybe a bit more like a Leon Cameron?

I think this kid has a bit of potential.

Footy smarts he has the knowledge of his old man in his psyche and veins which will hold him in good stead and in regards to nous.

I think there is more upside. He should be allowed to develop in the ones I think. He has a bit more size than Cameron at his age which will help him but I think he can expand given his background if afforded some space on a flank. He does not seem slow and I think he has room to expand his game from the initial output he has shown. I sense a bit of composure from where he has the ability to expand his options which will aid the teams creativity in transition towards our goal output. He seems defensively minded enough so I do not think now is the time to put the brakes on him particularly after the break were he has had a refreshment break. I think the precision of his disposal affords him more time actually as well enabling to look at things develop later before he releases the ball

Played 2 senior games and blokes with runs on board ahead of him. No worries
Which blokes have runs on the board that are ahead of him???

In my experience when people talk about others with runs on the board as a cliche they are really talking about favourites whether warranted or not!

When Stack played his first game for RFC in the senior team he had the number one small backman spot for RFC. He was that far ahead of predecessors in terms of completeness of game for a small backman defensively and offensively, aerially and groundball. Stack has not improved. He was an instant gun!!!

When Short gets back he can get a game because he has the ability and prowess to play a number of roles but I cannot see him getting ahead of Stackman in the backline!!

Naish, could play back/forward in the middle, I cannot see why he should be dropped ahead of others who have put their hand up on the passenger route!! Thats the trouble with some of the RFC players, even the smalls, not enough all round skills and versatility and too many specialist role players that get caught out when the game modifies along with the opposition!!

Dude, there are potentially 6 to come back in. Who misses out?

Isn't it obvious???

Well, its not McIntosh, because he has the runs on the board and is not a passenger so who is it?? We do not have many of McIntosh's type either do we?? He has been rather serviceable this year as well regarding form

Can't see it being Edwards, because he can play a number of roles and was an All Australian only last year.

Can't be Houli because he is racking up a heap of possessions and has done so for a while.

Can't be the Stackman because the Stackman is the Stackman and he go over 90 fantasy points to last outing from the backline if that counts for anything.

We have a thousand small forwards so some of those will have to be in line would they not???

Lambert if fit will have to come in with Cotch as well. Graham had a good game to last week and both he and Lambert can rest forward, Edwards can go forward to.

I believe Patrick was dropped. Do i get an apology?

Good start to his AFL career.

One touch player with good balance, A grade foot skills, and reasonable speed out of the blocks.

Strength, endurance and defensive pressure are deficiencies. You’d back him in to improve those things, seems to be very committed/focused on making the grade

Lads, just bumped into NAISH sr at the Ivanhoe Tab again. He has a share in News Girl. Fifth race at Caulfield. Declared it.

I think it's right that Naish got dropped. He's played okay for his first 2 games, but apart from that goal (always awesome to see a player kick a goal in his first game), HE HAS NOT SET THE WORLD ON FIRE! Which is what he needed to do if he was ever going to keep his spot.

Think about what position he plays and who we've got coming back. There's no way that you'd keep him over Lambert, Edwards or Short, he's just not good enough....YET! I can see him being a very good player, but he's nowhere near where he needs to be.

And as far as brining some guys back through the twos so he can get another couple of games in him, yeah maybe you've got a point..... if it was round 5-10 or if we were sitting comfortably in the top 4!

We have 9 games before the end of the season! 9 GAMES!!!! We're also sitting 9th on the ladder! Think about what needs to happen before finals (IF we make finals) if we're going to be a realistic chance. These guys you wanna bring back through the twos need to get match fit, find their touch, gel as a team, and win games. THEY CANT DO THAT FROM THE TWOS! And time is running out.

It's unfortunate for Naish, but it's the right call. Naish will get his opportunity, he's got the skills, but he's just not ready to play right now, especially with where we're sitting.

If we can get our guys where they need to be and win most of our games, I think we're still a realistic chance. But a lot needs to go very, very right too!

Unlucky to be dropped , Played against 2 very good teams in our team far from full strength so was always going to be a tough introduction for him
I would have preferred short be given a week in the vfl or Ellis to be given a week off and kept young Naish for 1 more week
