AFL Player 45: Tom Edwards

A lot of people were annoyed that we jumped the gun and signed Edwards on an extended contract after he did his acl.
They mustn't have seen his second half against the Dogs in the pre season match when his career was in the balance - was sensational imo. If continues like this and Tsatas goes years end give him the no 5.

Is it? A simple calorie surplus and weights program usually does the trick.

I spent 3 years trying to bulk up. Raced from 73-74kgs to about 76, at 182cms. One of my best mates did the same, & hit a similar weight at 170cms. Same club, same fitness staff. Very different result.

Edwards was decent in his return and should retain his spot. He troubled the opposition and can’t say that about many other forwards this season so far.

Because every human can do the same things and are built the same way. It is not one box fits all.
There are a number of players who struggle to build muscle. Even more so with all the running they need to do to stay at average endurance level.

He reminds me of Chris Heffernan.

Works hard, Tom. I'm already very comfortable whenever he's near the ball. He'll be better for it when he puts a bit of muscle on. Was really easily bumped off by Chandler at one point.
Does not need to. His lankiness is key (sneaky strong).

Honestly its incredibly surprising how quickly he's from being just another guy on the long term injury list to an integral part of our best 22. I think most of us didn't really have any expectations for him after the ACL and probably had him around the same level as May or McMahon but with more limited preparation. But so far he's performed better than all of our other tall forwards besides Caddy.

The best part is unlike May/Wright he's actually pretty good defensively. That diving spoil he did was terrific. He's quite agile and just reads the play really well. I thought we'd be too tall but swapping him in for Perkins is probably a defensive upgrade despite being taller.
