The level of vitriol and frankly toxic culture in this thread is getting out of hand. As such, the thread will be monitored actively for posters who drag down the quality of posting for all others, and they will have their access to the thread removed.

Further, reference to TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) and its counterpart 'Trumpanzee' or anything similar will no longer be allowed. Much like other tropes of that nature, they serves as a conversational barrier and fall-back point for people to simply sling mud. That's unacceptable.

As always, please submit ideas for the thread title by tagging me! Winner announced when I get around to it.

Thanks.

"the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims"

Exactly what that bunch of dickheads are roaming the streets for months on end, burning, looting bashing, tearing down monuments and setting churches on fire. Organised anarchists out there for no other reason than to cause as much chaos as possible in the leadup to the election and actively supported by the benficiaries.
This is criminal conduct. Do the Democrats support looting?

The thing that I will never understand with Covid is that it actually represented a chance for Trump to broaden his appeal, and even more crucially, to appear as a strong and decisive leader; and more bizarrely still, that is the image he has always seemed so keen to project.

After the initial inertia, I had thought Trump was actually saying something close to the right things at one stage there, when he was mandating limits on gatherings, working from home and distancing. The viral models now show that all of that came too late, but nonetheless, it appeared for at least a brief time that he took the whole thing seriously enough, even if belatedly.

He just couldn't last the distance and stay the course though, and I can only conclude his attention span just isn't capable. Within weeks he starts talking about the virus magically disappearing, about bleach, about the gamechanger drugs that have turned out to be duds, attacking governors; it all went to sh*t very quickly.

I am not and have never been comfortable with saying Trump can be blamed for all of the Covid deaths in the US, because there were and are other factors at play. However, his lack of consistency and seemingly, fu**s to give about the whole situation after a short time has almost undoubtedly made things worse, and I suspect it has eroded the willingness of some to support him; the polling (for what it's worth) among older voters should be a warning for him, but he seems stuck on the idea that it's only the economy that will win him votes. It's bizarre. I suspect people would be much more forgiving, even if the US still had a lot of cases and deaths, if Trump was projecting an image of taking the threat of Covid seriously. Instead, he does the opposite.

It may win him further kudos among his rusted-on supporters; I don't think it helps him with anyone else though.
It's incredible to be honest, the covid-19 outbreak was Trumps greatest opportunity to guarantee his re-election and he has absolutely blown it. Every world leader with half a brain has seen surges in popularity by acting like an actual leader.

All he had to do was acknowledge the virus, follow the advice of experts and put aside party politics to develop a bipartisan approach to tackling the virus, like so many other countries have done. Joe would've had zero chance.

But instead he saw it as an opportunity to attack his enemies, and started throwing blame at the usual suspects like China and the Dems. All the while trying to boast about how well he is doing.

The rusted on RWNJs will continue to drink the kool-aid, but it's evident the rest of the US is waking up to just how dangerous it is to leave a moron in charge.

Certainly hope there are people with killer haircuts and bellies full of ice cream to offset the virus.

Of course its criminal activity and the question how is how this it possible its still going on, but in only democrat jurisdictions and in fact getting deadlier? The democrats absolutely support it. Look at their policies of defunding police and insistence on calling rioters, protesters. Countless examples of police in democrat cities refusing to arrest rioters, looters or even respond to requests for help from the public. When the scum toppled those statues on live TV's how many arrests do you think there were - zero.

These people aren't engaging in criminal acts. Its the thing that seperates it from lawful protests and the domestic terrorism the left is engaging in in the US

That doesn't indicate support for looting.

So if police in "Democrat cities" do something, that means it is a policy of the Democratic party in general?

The models (based on genetic modelling of different strains) seem to suggest that it was New York rather than Seattle where the virus made by far its biggest entry into the US by virtue of the hordes of European travellers still arriving, and that was happening at a time when only Seattle was really known about. So in that sense, due to the sheer crush of people in greater NYC (and greater Philly to an extent too), the northeast was always going to be the guinea pig and it also explains why aside from New York, the worst affected states early on were states in closest proximity to New York City; New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Massachusetts. I mean, the entirety of New Jersey falls into the greater NYC or greater Philly areas, they never had a hope.

Not to excuse the nursing home mismanagement, by the way. But yeah, by the time the northeast realised they had the virus at all, there were probably north of 10,000 people infected. Slaughter.

This has been spoken about before. That the virus made its way to the US via people returning to the US, mainly from Europe.

The major entry points being through the NE of the USA & from Asia into the west coast.

The virus is making itself known into other middle & southern parts of the US. Given the poor/non coordination when dealing with the initial outbreak, the whole USA is becoming consumed.

Such a sad situation. Totally their own fault. To many idiots with belief systems & no idea of science.

The particularly salient point from those early days, though, is that the focus was so much on CHYNAH CHYNAH CHYNAH that it seemed to be taken for granted for far too long that the virus had only gained a meaningful foothold in Seattle and San Francisco because that was where arrivals from China were coming back into the US.

Of course we now know that the virus had already well and truly spread enough through Europe by that point, that people travelling from there (and a huge number of those come into New York as their point of entry) were bringing it in. While the extent of spread in Europe wasn't yet fully appreciated, I reckon it was wide enough that the danger posed to the east coast of the US, and the northeast in particular, should have been realised weeks earlier than it was.

Easy to say in hindsight, perhaps, but it's hard not to conclude the situation was misread spectacularly.

But what if the people holding those guns where African Americans?
Would there be a different response?

Never in his DNA to take that approach though, he knows only one way.

He's actually been very lucky in that POTUS' usually come up against a pretty sizeable cluster**** not of their own making at some stage during their term - really its been 3 years of ultra smooth sailing on that front. But yeah, first real challenge requiring actual leadership and he's s**t the bed fairly comprehensively.

I dunno, I'd argue that the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico was a pretty big cluster*.

Was at an Industry lunch over here in late Feb. Speaker was an international economist who had a few slides on Covid.
Early days but he was worried about the potential of the virus.
He compared Chinas standing in the world now compared to SARS ~20 years ago.
IIRC their international travellers had grown from 4m to 180m and they went from 5% to 24% of the worlds economy.
He was extremely concerned and sadly has been proven to rightly be so🙁

Timothy McVeigh is laughing from his grave at a few looters being labelled domestic terrorists.

A Racist Right masturbatory fantasy called "The Turner Diaries" was repotedly found in McVeigh's car after the Oklahoma City bombing

If that was any indication of where his mindset was at he'd be in tears that all these African-Americans and BLM sympathisers of all ethnicities were being let into his 'club'.

EDIT: More on 'The Turner Diaries';

Did he have any end predictions? Did he see a world economy in ruins or did he see us all somehow manage to scrape by?

True, I'd forgotten about that.

Handled with the usual sensitivity and aplomb

Biden has explicitly stated he doesn't support defunding the police though? He even wants to give them more...
