What a dilemma at the start. Work with Trump and risk your future prospects or miss what could be your only opportunity.

Now it is easy. Nobody with credibility will work with him now, only those who would never be given a shot with any other administration anyway so nothing to lose.
This is Washington we're talking about.

Plenty of people would be prepared to work in this WH just for the book deal.

No Bannon is horrible on economics. Just because he cares about the lower classes doesnt mean he knows anything about economics. He doesnt understand the concept of comparitive advantage which clearly outlines why trade is a good thing that benefits both parties regardless of how competitive they are. Thus he advocates closed borders and protection of unskilled tradeable sectors against foreigners with cheaper labour costs. He also is a 17th century luddite who doesnt understand how the jobs market works and the impact technology has. He is an economic illiterate and its dangerous if people believe he knows a bit about economics.
I didn't say he knew anything about economics, just saying what he has advocated for on the economic front is not your typical neo con trickle down stuff that Republicans (including the current lot) are usually famous for. His motivations for protectionism may have racist undertones, but I'm a supporter of a certain level of protectionism in trade policy.

Comparative advantage is all well and good but if it isn't passed onto the consumer (and comes at the expense of lower wages, conditions and employment for the lower classes) then I struggle to see the benefits.

Probably the biggest reason for Trump's rise was his anti-TPP stance. Globalization and free trade has left a lot of people behind in middle America. Even if you disagree on trade and borders with him. The rest of his economic ideology wasn't too bad.

However, obviously on race and other issues he was deplorable (and probably the main agitator behind rescinding DACA).

Would have been 4 years of policy dead lock. Which may be better than the tax breaks that have got through though...
Her whole thing is being a career politician and therefore 'Washington insider'. i.e. Someone who can get stuff done there.

Off the back of Trump beating the rest of the Republicans, the GOP should have decided their Tea Party tactics haven't been working and their party is only getting worse.

It would not have been gridlock. I suspect they would've wanted her to pass some things that are 'centrist' (for America) so they could regain some credibility rather than being seen as wreckers on repeat.

They really seemed (to my uneducated eye) to have been (to Obama) "do as we demand or we will not raise the debt ceiling and the government will run out of money"; and I think there would have been political mileage for them frustrating Clinton as well, they would have no need to appear constructive IMO

There isn't political mileage if you don't win. Losing shows you are doing something wrong. Trump winning... No-one is sure how to take it, as it appears a woeful decision on pretty much all counts except 'we hate politicians'.
Don't go ruining this thread with logic and facts. Half of this thread were getting quotes on nuclear bunkers a day or 2 ago, after CNN told them the world was ending.
Liar.

I suppose since Trump is so hard to defend the idea is now to pretend "anti-Trumpers" are the key daily issue?

What we permit? He was (seemingly) Democratically elected. The constitution restricts him. He can't be chucked out until Congress impeaches him.

He also claims he "authorized zero access", which is an odd way of putting it given he also "turned him down many times". So he obviously didn't ban him either. I'm guessing he just informally said it was OK for him to be around, or was never informed. Anything is possible, considering the constant dysfunction of the White House, as continued by Trump wasting time nick-naming Bannon and saying he "cried".

I suspect no one knew who he was, thought he was another intern gopher running around or something, say a few fkattering things and evade scrutiny...
