The despots of the world know Trump is a flip flopper. They hear his threats, then wait him out for a few days so he can find something else of Fox to stir his twitter attention.

The Chinese won't do a deal with him because they know at the first sign of trouble or political advantage he'll just walk away from it.

Frankly their politics are finished from the right, which is tending to nationalism and a reduced American role internationally, they’d probably find better bedfellows in the interventionist wing of the Democrats.

Hopefully they are finished for good, but Frum, Boot et al are all in early stages of a pivot.

That said, Bolton going also demonstrates that Trump has failed on two big foreign policy objectives - Maduro still in place in Venezuela and the Iranian theocratic regime still firmly ensconced, and if anything stronger for having seen off Bolton (again).

Not enough to really rouse the homeland and give Trump the opportunity to go all flag humping war president, but just enough to keep his claims of having "won" over Daesh/Iran palpably false.

(He doesn't need to worry about Venezuela, Maduro is just happy to live another year or so)
