We've sourced most of our rucks from other teams too (Mummy, Sinkers, Ruck Jesus in recent years). All the ones we drafted we traded away (Nank, Cameron etc.) - with the exception of.... Mike Pyke!

The problem with developing rucks is they can take up a list spot for many years with no return. Eventually we had to make the call and i don't recall too many people in here saying it was a bad call.

The fact that he has bulked up and elevated his game is all kudos to him. I hope he has a good career.

This is what NSW footy should be doing. with all the Vic bleating about the academies, successful transplants increasing the talent pool league wide are a very direct response.

13 tackles against Freo and wasn't overawed by Luke Jackson in the slightest. McAndrew worked hard last night, and he can roost a ball as well as any big man, so that gives Adelaide's impressive talls another couple of bites at the apple to mark the ball to advantage. For a bargain basement price, I'd be pretty happy if I were Adelaide, especially considering the decline of Riley O'Brien with the new rules.

right now so I don’t get the angst about him getting a game with the Crows.

If the issue is that he should be on our list as a backup option, then the question should be, how long should he have waited before a starting opportunity become available?

I don’t currently see our senior ruck position being available before 2028 at the earliest which is why we have slowly been developing Green for then rather than pushing him quickly and kept Ladhams as the current backup.

Was it realistic to expect McAndrew to wait 3 seasons on our list just in case of injury and at the same time not be our main VFL ruck option? How was he suppose to improve like he has by not playing in the ruck full time? Does this also ignore the work he and his SANFL club put in during the last 12 months?

No amount of hindsight would get him a game in the senior side last year or so far this year ahead Grundy. He gets a chance last year in the SANFL that he was not going to get with us at VFL level and earns a senior list spot and turns that into a starting job.

I think that is great for him that this has happened and not a mistake by us, the mistake on our side would’ve been keeping him when it was clear he would not get a chance at senior level.

I look at it a different way, whilst his timeline didn’t work out here, at least the recruitment team did a great job identifying the potential
