That's what i am thinking.

Didn't make the steeple, allowed to have a crack at the 1500m.

In europe trying to still get a gig for oylmpic team.

Will know in the next couple of weeks its a chance. If not, he pulls on the footy boots.

The boy can run! He appears to have a frame that could put weight on too. Let's hope that he can play now!

I'm not sure about how much he can bulk up, but I hope you're right.

According to the Cats website he's 198 cm and only 78 kg, that's only 1 kg heavier than Shannon Byrnes at 175 cm.

Until he left to run in the European season, Mark was my masseur. He told me the club would like him to add another 10 kg, but even then, for his size he would still be relatively fragile. I guess the club feel that his speed, endurance and mobility will compensate for his lighter frame.

Blitz-halves, as referred to by coach Chris Scott runs out for the first time this weekend in the VFL.

It will be his first game since U14's.

Same height as West and Vardy, got a tick of approval from Wellsy and Balme during skills sessions, elite endurance, thorough professional approach to training and recovery. All the best to him and the club and a successful future.

Have high hopes this boy could make it. Got a few crucial clearances on the weekend, knows where the goals are, doesn't mind laying a tackle. Could take the odd ruck contest if needed. Not making a comparison in class but we saw richo go to a wing and play well at his height, the key was that he could run, as we know mark can.

Whether he can run to the right places and be effective with his disposal remains to be seen. With a couple of pre-seasons under his belt and development under Matty knights he could be a real player in a couple of seasons. Here's hoping.

I must say i was pretty impressed with him on Saturday. He is a good size and can obviously run. But for someone who was in only his 3rd game of VFL football he far from disgraced himself. He looks to be a good kick he just needs to put the work in and with a big pre season he could be anything. Worth persisting with.

Really showed something in the NAB game , admittedly with not much game time.
Jumped over the top of 211 a couple of times , layed some good tackles ( gave away a couple of frees but hey) and covered the ground as you would expect , also went in hard and was very energised around the contest.
He has put on some weight and whilst he could use a little more he's probably not far off.
One to watch , I reckon the Club would be pretty happy based on that showing.

With regard to Blicavs, remember watching his old man (Andy) play basketball for St Kilda (mid 70s) - was sensational player in his day. Prediction for Blicavs junior for 2014 is if Geelong other ruckman come to the fore ie. McIntosh/Simpsin fit, with Vardy pinchhit in the ruck, is for Blicavs to play on the wing (i knw this thought perhaps a little left field) using his pace to break the game open. Would be great sight to see on open space at the G out on the wing with ball in hand.

Thing with Blitz is while he can run like Forrest I'm not sure he is blazing fast. He sets an amazing pace over 2k for example but over 200m I'm not so sure. For mine his benefit on the wing is going all day and linking up when others can't go but not so much in the shorter term. Over the duration, i agree with what you are saying...

Believe me, even the distance runners can rip it up over 50-100mts, just watching them do run throughs to warm up at the old Olympic Park prior to a 5000mtr race or better still a 1500mt, you could see those boys could really motor.

He could take that on easily (wing) and keep going up and back, it's probably the best place to take advantage of his natural run.

I wasn't saying he could not play the wing back and forth. What i was saying was that I didn't think he was Motlop fast or top 10 fast over a shorter distance. I used 200m but should have gone shorter. Explosive pace and endurance tend to be opposite character traits (% of fast twitch VS slow twitch)

But yes, as i said in my post, i could totally see him running the wing all day long.

Haile Gebresalasie tiny 10,000mt gold medalist could run 47's for 400mts, could run a final 400 in a 10K race in 50s, believe me some have got amazing kickdown pace.
Blitz isn't in his league, but fast enough, especially on repeated efforts as required.

Blitz will be a far better player after his first season, it's hard to believe that was only his first, I can see him holding more marks and achieving higher stats next year.

Re: 2011 Rookie Draft selection - Mark Blicavs

Hmmm first Grandpa from the VFL now a middle distance runner that has not kicked a footy for years? Smells of desperation in 2012?

Now in the 22. Got any other pearls there?
And cost us NOTHING….

In the 22 but where will his position be? And where does he fit if all the talls are fit? Hmac, Simpson on the track , Vardy looking good (according to the clubs injury report) , Stanley , (not mentioned in the injury report) but I believe he would be playing this week end if we had a game. , Kolo young defender is ready for his chance , Walker is seriously AFL ready..........
