THE latest Rioli to join Richmond is a “little tackle machine” who boasts “some amazing tricks with his foot skills” according to the Tigers’ national recruiting manager.

Maurice Rioli Jr, the son of Richmond great Maurice Rioli, joined the Tigers with pick 51 in the draft on Wednesday night.

Richmond’s Rioli fairytale continues with Maurice Jr to follow in father’s footsteps and join cousin Daniel at Tigerland

Also able to join Fremantle as a father-son, and Essendon through its Next Generation Academy, Rioli Jr first came through the NTFL with St Mary’s, before spending the past 18 months in Melbourne at Scotch College.

Richmond’s national recruiting manager Matthew Clarke told the club’s website while this meant he didn’t play a lot of footy this year, the Tigers were really excited about their newest Rioli at Punt Road.


“He’s really hard, tough, he’s a little tackle machine,” he said.

“He puts really good forward pressure on, and he’s got some amazing tricks with his foot skills and his hand skills.

“So, really excited to have Maurice and I think Tiger supporters will be really excited to see him in the next few years.”
