What was the talk on the commentary of him trialling forward over the pre season?
It would be a crazy thing to do but it seems like something we’d do.

God I hope now. Jacobs can literally take the best players in the comp out of the game. That's so handy for a young side like us.

There were a number of games n 2017 where a mid fielder allowed to run amock was the difference between a win or loss.

Hope he gets back to THAT form!!!

2013: Plays 7 games for us. Our record in those games: 3-4 (43% W/L) Overall yearly record for the club: 10-12 (46% W/L)
2014: 14 games. 9-5 (64% W/L) Overall: 16-9 (64%) * Played in the EF and the PF plus 12 regular season games
2015: 23 games. 14-9 (61% W/L) Overall: 15-10 (60%) Missed rd 2 (easy win over Bris at Etihad) and rd 9 (horrendous loss to Collingwood after leading by 6 goals at half time.
2016: 7 games, rds 2-8. 7-0 (100% W/L). Overall: 12-11 (52%)
2017: 0 games. Overall record: 6-16 (27% W/L)

Since 2013:
With Ben: 33-18 (64.7%)
Without Ben: 59-58 (50.4%)

Taking out 2017 and the remainder of the games after round 9, 2016 (injuries, etc. and then retirements):
With Ben: 33-18 (64.7%)
Without Ben: 50-31 (61.7%)

My (very short) analysis: He makes us better. Hard to say what might have happened in some of the subsequent losses after round 8 in 2016. I think we really missed his presence, and the whole season might have turned out differently if he'd played the full year. We clearly missed him last year.

So glad to have him back this year. Has turned out to be another astute recruit by us.

Good summary.

Also as a tenacious footy smart player, as long as he's relatively injury free there's no reason why his output can't be near his previous standard for the rest of his career. Doesn't depend on any particular athletic attribute except endurance in his game.

I would argue his strength is up there, his tackling adds a bit in contested clearance situations. However, Cunners did beat a bit in the intraclub up forward.

Was thinking more about movement related attributes like lateral agility and pace. Agree on his strength and hopefully that's something he can retain and use again with a more stable base to move from.

I think that was Wrighty saying that he was resting forward on the weekend and that sort of thing wouldn’t happen in the real stuff.

Good summation. 2016 went to s**t when he and Higgins went down. And then Swallow got concussed. Cunningtons leg went dead. Just ****ed it. We limped into September but if we had seen out the year with a healthy 22 who knows what may have happened come September.
Unbelievably s**t luck really.

Bit of s**t luck and also (shareholders in the senior coach look away now) a lack of ability to pull the carriage back on the tracks from those in charge.

If one of either Ben or Higgo had stayed fit, we would have been better than 12-10. Both, and anything was possible that year. We know who ended up winning the flag. It very probably could have been ours. We still had Wellsy, Drew, Dal, Spud and Boomer then of course.
