Past #5: Ben Jacobs - delisted after 64 NM games/10 NM goals - thanks Benny

We really have some entitled w***ers posting on here sometimes. People like TPA suggesting without basis that Ben is serving a drug ban should take a break from posting here for everyone else’s benefit.

Is it tough to see up there on your moral high horse?

After listening to the whole interview he ain’t gonna play this year. Nearly 11 months after the incident and all the specialists in Australia can’t pin point the issue.

His long term health needs to be a priority and if that means giving up footy then so be it.

Devastated to hear what he is going through.

I love Jacobs as much as Cunnington or Higgins and even Im not deluded enough to think this may be the case.
I know where he hangs out and who he hangs out with. I also know hes an AFL footballer and as much as the club and the league has form here, wed all be naive to feel that every player on our list is clean.
If Jack *in Watts of all footballers loves the nose beers than no ones off limits.

I've collated a list of players I'm confident wouldn't touch the stuff:

Ben Brown

I'll get back to you on the rest.

Just read the interview Fox Footy released on his troubling symptoms. Must be bloody frustrating. He comes across as a likeable bloke (despite the fact he has destroyed Richmond in the past). Hoping for the best possible outcome for him. And usually if players have something to hide, they are gagged by their clubs. That’s not happening in this instance.

Or some poster from another team posts a rumour

Or it’s in the Scandals and Rumour Thread

It's possible he's on something. Hell I'm not sure I'd blame him for trying to enjoy after he'd been through all this s**t for the last year, especially if he's feeling as dead inside as he looks.

Simple fact is though that there is literally no smoke other than his absence. And while clubs do tell white lies about injuries, the club simply couldn't survive it if it was found he was suspended for drugs after doing a 20 minute interview detailing the reasons for his absence.

To be honest I haven’t been following his situation that closely and only recently caught wind of the drug rumours. He just doesn’t strike me as the type to openly lie about such debilitating symptoms. There aren’t many people out there that would go down that path.

There's no proof to back it up whatsoever.

It's water cooler gossip level drivel.

Agreed, and to my point the club would also be aware of what was going on and complicit in any lying. While there was radio silence I had a little niggling worry about the potential for a drugs infraction, based simply on how the club was basically pretending he didn't exist, but now that we have had an EXTENSIVE interview I feel pretty confident it's nothing like that.

Pull your head in, We’ve got a player who hasn’t played or trained in a long time because of seemingly an innocuous incident. if the afl never used the mental health card for drug suspensions, we wouldn’t be talking about it. This is the afl’s own doing, it was stupid short sighted PR. I wouldn’t put it past them to blame concussion a thing either.

You’d have to be completely native to think these young boys wouldn’t be getting involved with this type of stuff. Even clean cut boys like Ben.

It’s s**t but unfortunately its topical.

Sorry yeah I've pulled my head in. Ben is doing coke. It's a big conspiracy.

I think that has been the problem on the supporter end, Brad keeps talking at interviews like he is almost ready to play and to be honest, he doesn't even look remotely close to playing now and there would be some serious concern if he will ever or should ever play again. He might be able to manage this to a point he has a reasonable quality of life but he should sit down with his family and consider the risks and contemplate retirement, if they do not know what has happened to him and if this was caused by a knock he may well cop again if he plays again, there is a risk he may never get back again to a physical condition where he is at the moment, and where he is atm isn't great.

He is a major loss for our side but it would not sit well with me to risk long-term or permanent damage to a player if he is put at considerable risk going back on the park.

We should put him on the long-term injury list immediately and assess him for the 2020 pre-season, if he isn't right or if we don't know what has happened to him or if we aren't confident that there isn't a risk of him suffering permanent or debilitating injuries past his football career then he should retire, as painful as that will be to us as a club. Player's health and safety come first.

Nah, boneofshin is right. TPA is a miserable mean-spirited a-hole who contributes nothing of value to the forum and couldn’t even be bothered listening to the Jacobs interview before jumping in with snide references to players from other clubs with well known lifestyle issues.

I’ll vouch for TPA Rob that in no uncertain terms did he intend any malice on Jacobs or slander.
It was a thought which some not the majority were thinking and its in no shape or form an attack on Jacobs.
He’s been out for 9 months and has no return in sight.
Its a combination of frustration at his continued absence after his foot injury and the teams current issues.
No one knows how to fix Ben. Not the club or medical professionals.
Does it reek of something more sinister? 100%
Ultimately we all back in Jacobs on this because we don’t understand his indefinite absence, however in an online forum how speculation wont arise is nearly impossible. There isn’t a which hunt in motion and I, like everyone just want to see Jacobs healthy and back.

Ben's strange neurological symptoms remind me of my own condition that robbed me of about four years of my life from ages 18-22. Took six doctors and three specialists to get on top of it and it even flares up to this day (aged 26), to the point where a recent flare-up resulted in significant brain damage.

Turned out to be an extremely rare form of chronic migraines (mostly basilar) that were frying my central nervous system on the daily.

I'm not saying this is what Ben's got, but these types of issues can take years to even get a diagnosis, so we need to be patient. I've seen North supporters saying awful things about this and won't stand for it. I've been there and it sucks.

Brain injuries are no joke and the more people realise, the better we will be. I recently took a knock to the head simply slipping on ice, mild concussion, and I couldn't operate properly for 2-3 weeks. I can't imagine what it's like dealing with this s**t for years if not decades of a life.
